CNN tv ratings are hitting a 5 year low

I just cut my cord again. All the news organizations are crap. Constantly "Breaking News", gets your anxiety up. Plus nobody is watching these boring impeachment hearings but CNN is the only one willing to play them in their entirety.

I think the constant “breaking news” and “bombshell” and other hyperbole is driving this country crazy. Everything is the most important, best, worst thing in the world for 4 hours. There’s no perspective anymore.

There's really no reason or rationale behind 24/7 news network. Relevant news itself doesn't happen quick enough to justify a 24 hour network so they're left with just filling time with bullshit. I mostly just watch CNBC when the market is open and watch BBC or Al Jazeera shorts on the iPad.

Cnbc and fox business are essentially the only channels I watch outside of AAC games on tv.

I don't know anybody under 30 who has cable or watches news networks. Social media and the internet are going to take over that market, or at least what they haven't already.

Social media news is just as bad, maybe worse.

Maybe worse because the news comes to you and there isn’t any follow-up. Maybe better because there’s not a veneer of reputability hiding grossly biased reporting.

Why watch CNN anymore when you can learn all you need to know about what's going on in the world from news links provided right here at the WC by UCFWayne?

Ironic coming from a guy who just got his ass handed to him in that Zimmerman thread for trying to re-write the news and facts of that case.

LOL Says my ankle-biting little toadie troll who's had his lying ass handed to him by Yours Truly on a daily basis.

Wanna talk Jessie Smollett again? :)

What always shocks me is the number of old people who sit in front of the TV and watch Fox News or CNN all effing day long like it's some epic soap opera that's unfolding in front of them and God forbid they miss one second of it.

At least with CNN I don't think many watch any longer.

It's even more shocking to note the number of effing dickheads who enjoy complaining online about old farts sitting around watching TV all day long.

^^^^^^ case in point, folks. This is your average dip shit geriatric who sits around all day watching a perpetual cycle of news, who then runs to an internet message board to spread the nonsense he learned coupled with his own made-up narrative ramblings.

You're losing it. I expected a better response from you that that.

Cord cutting or just due to fake news?
Fox News kills it because their prime time lineup has nothing to do with news. It's more like watching a soap opera. There are heroes and villains in a struggle for the soul of America and you have to watch Hannity to see what happened next. It's insane.

MSNBC primetime is closer to what Fox News used to be. Hard left bias? Yes. Selective reporting? Sure. Living in an alternate universe with made up facts? No. So it benefits from anti-trump viewership for sure.

CNN is the loser here. Only politically obsessed junkies watch cable news every night. They tend to be pretty opinionated and are going to gravitate to where they find the confirmation bias they seek. Out of the 3, CNN makes the biggest effort to give both sides air time. But from that perspective, I'd argue whichever network has the worst ratings is probably the closes to being fair - since the primetime audience that's looking for fair coverage is probably the smallest.

Yea and this is a problem too.

Younger generations are certainly better prepared to handle disinformation coming through social media, but they aren't immune to it. With all the flaws of CNN, you are at least going to be exposed to arguments from both sides. With the internet and social media, it's easy to box yourself in and simply avoid thoughtful competing opinions all together. When the only counter-argument you hear is your crazy uncle on Facebook, you start to believe there is no credible argument coming from the other side.

Does CNN really give both sides air time? All their hosts are left. They gave Hillary debate questions. I agree they give the news in a boring format to appear unbiased. I think a boring news setup only works in airports where people aren't really watching but it is at least something on tv.

Color me shocked that you think FNC is "beyond the pale" and yet think that CNN gives both sides fair and equal coverage.

MSNBC has Maddow and Sharpton on in prominent slots and you think they're not living in an alternate universe?

This guy thinks CNN is a fair and unbiased source of news, so, ya know.

Rachel Maddow literally went on a 2009 Glenn Beck'esque deep dive conspiracy theory regarding Russia over the course of a few months. She then drummed up fake news that she possessed the smoking gun on Trump's tax returns only to produce a document showing he paid taxes.

She's the queen of bullshit and fake news but lefties still trumpet her and some sort of intellectual master since she ticks the right identity politics boxes.

So ~3 years ago I would have agreed with you. I was probably wrong then too, but the impact of Trump's relationship with the truth has greatly exacerbated the issue on the right. The problem here isn't one of left/right bias. If you buy into that, then you can easily say both sides are just as bad. But this goes WAY beyond bias.

We can all operate in the same Universe with a range of opinions build around the same set of accepted facts. I look at the documented relationship between Ginsburg and Scalia as an example. They were hardly ever on the same side of split decisions, but had a great friendship. They could disagree intensely about an issue without it becoming personal. Even with diametrically opposing views on so many issues, they lived in the same reality, with the same facts, yet formed different views.

Trump has changed everything by normalizing lies and disinformation. His media acolytes are on this full stop. They will spin, twist, and misinform their audience to justify Trump's conspiratorial rants and lies. While someone like Maddow is clearly biased, the mere act of reporting actual facts makes you appear biased to anyone that lives in the Trump media bubble.

In the same sense as Scalia and Ginsburg, Maddow lives in the same reality as Chris Wallace, Anderson Cooper, Max Boot, Bill Kristol, etc. Trump, Hannity, et all occupy a parallel reality where every conceivable situation is twisted to justify and support POTUS. It has nothing to do with political views.

I'm not saying CNN isn't biased. I'm saying that out of the 3 major cable news networks, their prime time lineup does the best job of presenting both sides, and that crappy ratings are actually evidence of that as party loyalists clammer to get their confirmation bias at MSNBC and FOX.

Here's the problem. Bernie Sanders supporters are convinced that MSNBC is biased against Sanders. They certainly are more critical of Sanders and Warren on policy than candidates closer to the center.

My point is that if you're really far left, sources that are only moderately left appear biased to you. So if you're a conservative, a straight-down-the-road centrist giving you the news is going to appear biased. The further right you are, the more biased they appear. So much of how much bias you perceive is based on where you're anchored.

Have POTUS beat into your head that CNN and the like are the "enemy of the people" and eventually you'll start to believe.
