His ORTO policy has serious flaws. Just look at these teams in Omaha this year. At least 4 stud starters and 2-3 out of pen. All team had 7-8 or more drafted. And they will have sophomores who will get drafted next year. Their freshmen are players who chose to come to school instead of "pro". Yes Coach gets some 50th round guys but the reputation of UCF program is not strong enough to get those round 3-10 guys to come here..

What is wrong with this picture??

What is ironic is some of us want Clemson (or other school) to want him for his skills as pitching coach/recruiter/leader etc. Something I have not seen in 7 years.

We need change badly! We cannot continue on this course. If we dissect the season/team etc, what needs to be fixed? Coaching? Quality of recruits/players? Pitching alone? Errors? Defense?

thoughts and/or comments (it's summer so we have to dive in and talk about something! :) )

I'm willing to give Rooney another year at UCF to at least get us to the Super Regionals. If he doesn't want to stick around that long, though, fine. But no more underachieving. It's long past time for this baseball program to make real, tangible progress, and getting past the Regionals is the best way to do that.

Perspective guys ... perspective.

Rooney is a good coach, very good. This year's team fizzled ... no doubt, and I am sure Terry is as frustrated as anyone about this. He has built a perennially strong team, we are a nationally ranked program and were ranked as high as we have ever been ranked. Terry recruits well and is a great ambassador for UCF. Facilities are improving, and attendance has improved since he has been here. Team academics are pretty strong (might be some room for improvement here). He will break through in post season competition.

There is no reason to make a change here.

How is he going to fix it when he doesn't know what is broken? He admitted as much in the post-season interview that was posted. He said he was not sure why the team fizzled out.

He is supposed to be a good pitching coach, but our pitching staff is never more than one or two good pitchers and a bunch of other people who can barely throw the ball across the plate. Even when UCF had a lead of 7+ runs in a game I was never comfortable (and we did end up losing several games with big leads). That should not happen if he is that good at coaching pitchers.

It's O'Leary's problem now. Let us see if he rights the ship!
You can bank that while O'Leary is the Interim AD, nobody gets canned. I'd like to see Rooney and DJ be let go but that's not going to happen. I think the perception of that would not go over well with the coaching community in general.

For all the love that GOL is getting right now, I would think a review of the up and down football seasons shows that getting rid of a coach that produced good results and graduates its students athletes might be a rash decision. Baseball had a higher national ranking than Football has ever had -- granted was just a weekly ranking, but it is still an achievement.
You can't seriously be comparing Rooney and O Learys success . You should be out recruiting Terry . George won conference championships , you barely make conference tournaments . You got in position to win something and fizzled against stony brook . George best uga in the liberty bowl and Baylor in the fiesta

This is some of the funniest shit I've ever read on these boards.

Rooney has gone to 2 regionals in 7 years. His teams routinely implode and have horrible baseball fundamentals. The roster typically turns over with players year after year. He is in so far over his that it isn't even funny. If GOL went to 2 bowl games in 7 years, we would have run him out of town.

Terry Rooney has absolutely no business being a head coach. He is an absolute joke.

Yeap. It's either Terry posting this crap or Mrs. Rooney. She's been on these boards before defending him

Yep, we should fire a coach who has a top 25 program ranking every year, is drawing more and more fan support and graduates his student athletes ... now that is some funny shit.

Hahahajjajahahahajahahhahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

Where has ucf finished in 5 out of those 7 seasons???? NOT IN THE TOP 25 and not in a regional. What are you, a usf fan?

Next question: Is this you, Terry, or is terry paying you to be here, or are you simply that clueless?

Must be a baseball homer. Or hit in the head recently.

Is it your position/standard that only the final rankings matter and that is the sole determination of program success?

If so, what is the reason for that standard, and how often does a coach need to obtain the ranking to be a "good" coach? Should UCF use this standard for assessing all of its coaches? If so, we probably only have a women's soccer coach and men's golf coach left on staff.

Listen, Terry: it is great that you have gotten the baseball team ranked during the season. Time and time again, however, you fail to FINISH THE YEAR RANKED, fail TO COMPETE FOR CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS, and moreover, YOU FAIL TO TAKE THE TEAM TO AN NCAA REGIONAL. I don't know what you don't understand about this. If you were able to read, Terry, you'd see that nowhere have I ever said that was the only thing that mattered. You continually dodge the issue about regionals. You were the one when you first got here who created the "ORTO baby, ORTO" crap. Obviously, what a team does in the postseason is a great standard, otherwise you wouldn't have run around for your first six years uttering it. Is this the only metric? No. But you have failed in just about every other way as I have described above and numerous times before.

Now please, get out there and recruit another 20 guys who won't be on the roster in 2 years.

Bones and Joe: totally agree with your posts. Need a new direction for the Baseball program. I have long said that TR tries to manage everything and can't do it. Came in advertised as a "pitching guru" but is not a teacher. Those pitchers that have had success have come mostly from the JC ranks or came in with their skills and then hit a ceiling. We need a change. BTW, miss tailgating with you guys. I usually make it up from FT. Laud for one series a year with the Prince of Knights. Stay Thirsty.
