Buyouts of coaches originally were put in place to TRY and RETAIN your coach...so higher buyout brought in more money for your school.

In the last, 10yrs that has changed where coaches now want MEGA buyouts to "retain" their jobs.

We now see the dichotomy of this relationship.

What does the Dungeon think is a reasonable buyout and why?

My take for UCF (at this time) is we have a modest buyout -- say 5yr contract with $10M buyout dropping $2M per year until it reaches $4m and keep it flat for duration. When we see the coach is becoming a rising star we can extend the contract with better terms ... until then ... keep the value low so it isn't painful to fire them if they don't perform.

For Gus, it should have been apparent to TTT this was his last stop. In that case, we should have never had a BIG buyout for Arthur.
