Coaching staff speculations?

"Stay sober." Kind of a cheap shot don't you think?
Not at all. His drinking problems are well documented. Many people have drug problems and alcohol happens to be one of them. Alcohol affects the brain and every other part of the body in a negative way and hopefully has done adequate background checks to see if Frost is clean. I harbor no ill will to Frost...just concern.

It was fair game when Texas considered bringing in Sark, so why would it be off limits now?

I know I’m in the minority but I don’t want to see Darin Hinshaw or Sean Beckton on this staff.

If we are pulling from the Alumni it needs to be younger guys; Kevin Smith, McKenzie Milton types.

I will take you at your word but it didn't read that way to me.

Maybe I'm misremembering, but didn't JRP take a pretty significant step from year 1 to year 2 in his passing ability? I believe he even said that he worked with coach Hinshaw to get there? I feel like Henshaw got hamstrung by Gus. Haven't reports even come out of this season that Hinshaw was pushing for Rizk to play sooner, but Gus wanted "his" guys. I'm all for MM coming, but what's the harm in him learning from a very experienced QB coach for a few years? He was essentially a grad assistant last year.

As for Beckton, have any of you guys actually thought "our tight end play is what's really holding us back!"? No, he does a good job, knows the area HS coaches, and knows how coach Frost operates. Literally no down side in keeping him?

No on Hinshaw, was here 2 years and developed nobody. Beckton yes in an administration role (director of recruitment or similar). Kevin Smith, yes has proven credentials. Milton only in a GA, analyst or assistant to the QB coach.

No, they "claimed" JRP was greatly improved....but it turns out he wasn't (but ironically was always better than we put on the field this year). Agree MM is not ready to be "the" QB coach.

Cheap shot. That's tantamount to reminding a new groom of his drinking problem in front of his crowd at his wedding reception. It's classless and tasteless, true or not.

It is a cheap shot. What he does on his personal time is not our business. These coaches have a morality clause so as long as there is no indecent behavior off the field, he should be fine. If he shows up drunk to work (ie a recruiting visit, practice, presser, or other function where he is representing the school) then he should be spoken to and required to attend a program.
I know Kam is legit but.... Kevin Smith would be too legit to quit. Just dreaming.
Frost hired Kevin Smith in 2016. They did not get along. I doubt Kevin would leave Ole Miss unless we hired someone he worked with back in 2007-8ish.

I can't reveal who I've spoken to about it, but I was told that Hinshaw wanted to throw the ball more. He didn't see eye-to-eye with Malzahn. I think Darin has a shot at doing better with Frost than he did with Malzahn. I know Darin has had success elsewhere and I just don't feel so quick to dismiss him. I could be wrong.
I've heard similar things from others but I also heard if Gus stayed, he was going to fire Hinshaw and blame him for the team's poor performance. You can only get a limited number of reps working with the starters every week. If you keep changing the lineup, you're going to struggle. In my opinion, the worst performing coach on the team was the OL coach. The OL struggled the most on the team. Not sure if it was injuries, strength, or endurance. Their performance declined from last year. Frost should replace that coach first and move on. Beckton should be the TE and Recruiting Coach. Beckton has been a solid TE Coach and has proven results at UCF and in Nebraska.

Terrible analogy. UCF is going to pay Frost millions of dollars to coach young men. Its a business not a wedding. Even more important than winning is providing a culture that creates good character. Suppose just for the sake of the argument that you hire someone that is addicted to fententl or coccaine and there was evidence to support this before the hire. Do you think wishful thinking is going to have a positive effect on the team. Frost was given everything he asked for at Nebraska and had five seasons to prove he was up to the task and he failed miserably. I personally question whether his personal life had an effect on his character and his success. It is up to UCF to do due diligence in all aspects of his life when paying someone millions to be a role model for the athletes and the school. Hopefully they did that but only the future will determine if the right choice was made. Clearly Frost is a fan choice but only time will tell if he is the right choice. I, like most fans and alumni hope he is successful.

I do get frustrated when people are given millions of dollars and make bad decisions. I know how hard it is for some people to kick alcohol and that is my concern. Nothing more nothing less. I really hope he has his act together for his benefit as well as ours.

Didn't Frost miss a family recruitment visit bc he was hungover, or showed up to it hungover or something?

Agree that Hinshaw was hampered and embarrassed by Gus. I do believe that he wanted to throw the ball more.
Having said this unfortunately you are judged by who you are aligned with and therefore I wouldn't think that
Hinshaw will remain on staff. His play calling as OC was disappointing.

Just heard KZ coming as QB coach
That would be outstanding. He had a big positive impact on QB at FSU Jordan Travis.

KZ learned from one of the best QB coaches the last time he was here who taught him
how to read defenses and find open receivers quickly. You could see the difference in
his playing from year 1 to year 2 and 3.

How can u say that ? Don’t know the intricacies of the coaching of each quarterback, etc. I don’t think he was given the opportunity at all under Gus . I don’t know if he’s good or not good but neither of us are in a position to make such an emphatic statement.

On the job running an offense may be just as good as coaching it. His experience running it is invaluable. Happy to see his return.

Why are we doing this? We just hired the man and we are already trying to destroy him? How unhealthy is that? Right now, why don't we just forget about the past and focus on the future. Wouldn't it be best for everyone to get behind Frost, his coaches and his players, support him, defend him and help him build the program. For now, he is our head football coach for better or worse. Starting a bunch of negative crap about his past isn't going to be good for anyone except for those people who like to sling dirt and gossip.

Easy, look at the lack of results......our QB room was a mess by the end of the year. Even Utah's 5th string QB was better than all of ours.

Why would you choose to bury your head in the sand.....it was one of the risks of this hire and well known. If it turns out like it did with Sark at Texas, it will be put in the past......

Wonder if Frost will utilize the current coaching staff a bit before bringing on new guys since the portal opened already or if he's going balls to the wall to get staffed up.

I feel like there's a bit of a difference between "expressing concern about potential problem behavior in a coach on a message board read by a few tens of people" and "trying to destroy him"
In my opinion it's beginning to turn into more than an expression of concern. Besides how will dredging up the past and speculating on all the rumors help in any way? It has more potential to harm the program than help it. Players also read the opinions and crap we post. Will hearing that the HC may or may not have had problems in the past make them want to come here?

Looking at the live portal updates on CBS Sports (that damn thing is very addictive) not a single UCF mention of scheduled visits....so assume it is the latter

Makes sense since the vast majority of current staff is probably let go.....hard to sell your program on that basis to portal guys. At least with the HS guys there was an existing relationship.

Not burying my head in the sand I just don't see the comments as helpful. Let's just move forward!

Nothing is being made up, this information is all out there. Recruits need to decide on their own....unfortunately competing programs will whisper it to them.

OC- Kade Bell from Pitt has been thrown around?

QB coach- everyone and thier mother has said KZ?

DC- I've seen some people say Chin coming back?

TE- Beckton stays on right?

Who else would you you want him to keep? I think Kam at RB coach for recruiting connections alone.
no chin! pull-ease
