Coaching staff speculations?

Seems very odd when these types of hires occur. I’d assume a better than average G5 coordinator would be a better option? I don’t get the recycling of poor performance.
Seriously. Frost is acting like he’s building a G5 staff, not one to compete for the CFP. None of his picks are being pursued by ANYONE else. Most have either been fired or left behind unimpressive results. WTF? Why aren’t we swinging for the fence on every hire? I realize we won’t get all of them but we are becoming the graveyard for shitty performance! Is there any Knights fan that honestly believes this new staff will make us competitive with the top teams in the Big XII (or even be able to recruit at the higher level we need? 2 years of Malzahn-like results and we’ll sink to the absolute bottom of the conference).

Not if Frost actually fixes the offense and recruits a QB. That gets fixed and everything else will follow. There is going to be a prove it phase

Maybe Gus quit because UCF couldn't pay out his contract, much less buy out his contract.

That's good news. It was rumored already but was a little nervous with the rumors of Dawson joining the staff. I do find it interesting we have different coaches for DT and DE. Seem like you'd have one coach for DL.
its the P4 need to have more coaches and analysts too.

"... Grinch could not move the needle enough on the defensive side of the ball, and OU made just one more trip to the College Football Playoff in the Riley era. When the coach bolted for USC after the 2021 regular season finale, Grinch was one of the first assistants to follow him."

"It ended up being a blessing for the Sooners. They had the best defense fans had seen in years in 2024. Grinch, on the other hand, struggled at Southern Cal. He was fired by Riley midway through the 2023 season."

NOTE: For the record, I like Grinch and think this is a good move for UCF, considering all the variables. Here is a somewhat positive article on Grinch.

It’s not Xs and Os. It’s Jimmys and Joes. Save the money for the players. Saban got out because he was getting outbid by marginal schools. We need to outbid for a QB at least.

With what money exactly? Unless you have bags of cash in your Lamborghini (my Lamborghini is void of cash :) ) we have less than marginal teams. Look at who we have agreed to visits with, both are backups not top end transfer QBs.

I was hoping with the money they’re saving on these coaches.

Hinshaw is going to Purdue to be QB coach. I was unrealistically hoping he would stay as an analyst, consultant, or something. I felt like he could have been one of the UCF lifer coaches going forward.

Seems like the best hire of the staff thus far in terms of resume
Unfortunately, Frost doesn't have the immediate staff to bring along (like Odom at Purdue who has already added 4 of his asst's at UNLV). Hopefully our new coaches can work together and be an immediate asset. And it'll be interesting to compare our improvement with Purdue's over the next couple of years. Now Frost needs to catch up with Belichick's success so far in the transfer portal.

Watching the Gameday piece on SMU and D’Eriq King should give us hope for McKenzie to be successful as a QB coach right away. Rhett Lashlee promoted him from analyst to QB coach before the season and he was the catalyst for the ascendancy of their former backup QB Jennings to lead them into the CFP. D’Eriq King is now one of the youngest position coaches in the country, as McKenzie will be. They both played at around the same time period and enjoyed similar levels of success.

yes very similar to KZ and they both launched an nil company together a few years ago

Seems like with Grinch we are continuing the theme of redemption. He WAS a young up and coming DC (nominated 2x for assistant coach of the year), then had a run of his defense not working well at OK and USC. I guess we are gonna figure out if that's a Lincoln Riley issue or a Grinch issue.
Sometimes it’s the conference. The Big ten plays a much different brand of football than the b12

OC: Steve Cooper
OL: Shawn Clark
QB: McKenzie Milton
WR/AHC: Sean Beckton
DC (and probably safeties/DB’s?): Alex Grinch
DL (DT/DE): Kenny Martin, Mike Dawson

Need a RB coach, TE’s coach (maybe Cooper is OC/TE?), LB coach, a CB/DB coach, and a ST coach.

I think CB Coach Trovon Reed is being retained from the prior staff. It hasn’t been officially announced, but he’s still active on Twitter communicating UCF football content. One day ago, he was tweeting about coaching the cornerbacks this year, and said it “was the first of many”. We will see…
