That's nice...I'm glad he is third in those categories for his Div II School team.

As a 4th year college player who was recruited to play in CUSA, he should be doing well in Div II play.

I know he is happy getting mins at Rollins, even at the Div II level...and wish him nothing but success.

Dave's Div II Rollins Stats so far after 9 games:

28 mins
30.8% from 3 pt
62.8% FT
10.8 pts per game
4.4 rebounds per game

Does anyone know what Division Rollins plays in? I think it might be Division II, but I'm not sure.

They are D-II, a member of the Sunshine State Conference, and as of a week ago ranked in the Top 10. They completely dropped out of the Top 25 after their 2nd loss (weird).

Oh I know, that was just a sarcastic post in response to KLs need to mention five times in his post that DD plays for Division II Rollins.

I don't know. Donnie said that Martin is still having problems with his achilles that he blew out last year. Of the three freshman it seemed like Martin had the most recruiting interest (not that that necessarily means anything). He definitely needs to put on some weight, but hopefully after a year in the system and a year to get healthy and stronger, he will end up being a good player for us.

Really of any of the freshman, I would compare Days to Diakite as they seem to be more similar players. Days seems to be a little more of a basketball player/less of an athlete where as Diakite is just an athletic freak/less of a basketball player. Days just seems pretty timid on offense right now. He's a great athlete but just wants to stand around and shoot threes (which he hasn't been very successful at yet). Hopefully as he gets more comfortable he will learn to be more aggressive and take advantage of his athleticism.

Its hard to compare any freshman with 10 or so games under there belt to a guy thats been playing college basketball for 3 years.

Diakite would be a Junior. Basically when Sykes took his position last year Diakite saw the writing on the wall. Sykes is the same player as Diakite just much, much better and a year younger. Where would Diakite play? Wayne Martin is only a freshman, his talent is yet to be determined.

We probably could have used Sosa this year but I think Donnie and others expected Spurlock to start the year shooting how he has these past few games. If he can continue shooting well from the 3 obviously he is a huge upgrade on Sosa basically playing the same position.

I wouldn't read too far into it. He might have "hung it up" a little on his effort when he went to Rollins.

Secondly, if you weren't in highly competitive basketball you would be surprised how close the margin is between guys who play at various levels. A lot of times it's about athleticism and range at the D1 level. You will often find a lot of very talented players at the D2 level. I played AAU ball with a kid who had the top schools recruiting him his freshman year (he was all-state averaging 28 pts a game). He ended up transferring into a prep school and backed up someone who went on to UNC. He didn't get as much playing time and ended up not receiving a D1 offer. He played his college career at a D2 school but no doubt in my mind he could have competed at a school in CUSA or the CAA. Again, you would be surprised by how many people are talented at the game. However, when you talk about all-around team talent, well that's a different story.

Agree that the difference between certain players between top Div I programs, middle level I programs, lower level Div I programs and/or even good Div II, may not be that big.

Going to games for UCF for years, UCF fans have seen good and even some great performances by players from programs many have never heard of...as some can shoot lights out...but were just 1 or 2 inches too short to get a major Div I offer.

Dave's a Senior academically. He was given a redshirt year as a frosh because of injury after a handful of games. Each of his coaches starts out as a big fan of Diakite because of his spectacular plays and high energy hustle. But his funks and self-destructive play soured both Speraw and Jones on him. I compare him most to Sykes, although he hasn't yet gotten his 3's to fall. Sykes get down on himself, too, but has mastered team play better than Dave. Sykes is also stronger. Remember how Diakite predicted he'd average 10 rebounds a game? But if he can stay healthy and play well abroad, you could still see him in the pros. I wish him well and hope he came conquer his demons.

His career and season-opening dunk against NC A&T...

is still my all-time favorite UCF dunk. And that is a pretty high compliment, even considering some of the beauties we saw this week!

TRK

I've seen plenty of guys who could absolutely shoot the lights out in D2. The difference is usually athleticism and the ability to defend.
