Has anyone ever done one of these? I just did two with a team building event and it was amazing! I highly recommend doing this if you ever get a chance

Good Lord. Do ppl actually work anymore? I don't pay for any of this $hit at my firm. Show up on time, do your work, don't piss me off and I'll pay you well. I can't help but believe most employees would prefer their employers save all the money spent on all this bull$hit team building and pay higher salaries instead.

The benefits of professional team building is a myth that has been pushed by the "professional development coach" industry.

And then they wonder why their Christmas bonus is low

Ok. We all travel each week and we've saved money in our expense budget to go out and have a good time instead of head back to the boring old hotel

If I traveled a lot, I can easily see it.

But I don't ( yet ), My form of teambuilding is driving around in a narrow aisle reach truck and yelling at new coworkers to get out of the way.

We did the Crisis at 1600 and it was really really well done. Other escape rooms you have lackluster staff "actors" or it's too easy or way too hard or not enough to keep an entire group occupied at once, but this one is the best I've seen. Plus they usually have Groupons. Go with a group and the best strategy is to just split into smaller teams to solve the various puzzles in the rooms (each adventure consists of several rooms) at the same time, it's really the only way to beat the clock. This particular one also has a staff member in a control room watching you so if you can't solve something you can call out to them and they can barter for a hint by taking some time away from you. That way if you get stuck at the beginning, you can still move forward to the next room to experience the full game.

Team building exercises are stupid and a waste of time and money. Escape rooms sound like they might be fun.

What pisses me off is "team building" in Hawaii while people are laid off.

I have no problem with "team building," but I've seen how "expensive" it gets, all while I cannot get my expenses paid for making real money for the company.

Sucks works for the govt. so clearly they have no problem blowing taxpayers money.

In Sucks' defense, it's not team building exercises that are the worst money wasters. Don't get me wrong, gov't team building and related "personnel morale" BS, even useless training, wastes more than most corporations do on similar.

But in dealing with competitors that charge 10x as much to sell the same solution, sometimes the exact same solution (based on our product), only more poorly maintained and with more issues (because they have less expertise), there's something that is quite different in government that is never seen in the private sector. I.e., it's not always "lowest bidder," but the "I bought the most expensive option, so I did my part" attitude that you get at the director and higher levels in federal agencies.

We even joked, and that was only half-joked, we needed to raise prices to compete ... right in front of the agency. Of course, we'd have to raise it 3-5x above list price, which then becomes another issue (tax payer gouging). ;)
