Expansion Movement

In football, it's UConn or East Carolina.

Oh please. USF has always been our biggest rival. They looked down on us all those years from when we playd in the MAC etc. On top of that we could not beat them until recently. We have no such history with UConn or ECU.

There's a countdown clock, what more proof do you need?

USF is clearly our biggest rival. Both teams not being good at the same time is holding this rivalry back. But when both teams are simultaneously good, look out.

Love this kiddie board banter...

UCF has better fan support
UCF has more conference championships
UCF has a Fiesta Bowl Victory
UCF has batter facilities

USF has a larger endowment
USF has a bigger market
USF is 5-2 against UCF

UCF and USF are rivals, both can argue advantages for getting into the Big 12.

It's only logical for the Big 12 to bring in both UCF and USF because of combined market, travel partners/proximity, and heated rivalry.

Best options for Big 12 are UCF, USF, Cincy, Memphis. If market wasn't such a big deal, I'd argue ECU because they've been investing in sports and have a great fanbase.

Besides not being rooted in fact, this is a VERY volatile situation. Not saying you aren't correct right now but the two programs are going in very opposite directions. I'm the first to admit that the TB area is the ultimate bandwagon town, and if/when USF takes another positive step this season (victory over FSU and/or title game appearance), those fans will come back.

UCF has more conference championships
UCF has a Fiesta Bowl Victory

You really think the Big 12 cares about these things after you went 0-12 and lost to Furman at home? Seriously, in the eyes of other conferences, it's like these things never even happened. Like at all. Good accomplishments for your school but 0-12 (not your first time) and terrible losses are what the Big 12 cares about much more.

UCF has batter facilities
Once again, not factual. USF has made some very nice upgrades recently. And if there is an advantage on either side it certainly isn't noticeable to non-biased individuals.

I don't understand this argument...why would they not want more geographic diversification? Sure Orlando and TB aren't technically the same market but they might as well be. Why would they not want to establish a stronghold in Tennessee or Ohio AND Florida at the same time? The rivalry/travel things aren't really that important. I think you guys are on your own. Better start winning some games.

USF has a larger endowment
USF has a bigger market
USF is 5-2 against UCF

Now there's some facts!!! Well done.

And then fans will leave again once USF tanks again.

Yeah, actually they do, it shows we can compete with the big boys, unlike USF who backed up into a #2 ranking at one point in time only to fall off the face the earth at the end of the season. Stop beating your chest because we had one terrible year and USF won a whopping 8 games after several under average years.

Don't know, don't care.

You don't see the problem WVU has without a travel partner? Your logic defies sense, go back to your mom's basement.

Not sure I read a single fact in your response.

You really think the Big 12 cares about ONE bad season in the last decade when looking to invest in a program? You should tell that to Maryland and Rutgers. Also, how do you know what the Big 12 cares about? Are you on the expansion committee personally? UCF's body of work of the last 5 years (recent history) annihilates USF's dumpster fire program. USF finally has one season that doesn't embarrass the AAC and gets beat up by a conference USA team.

Once again, not factual. USF has made some very nice upgrades recently. And if there is an advantage on either side it certainly isn't noticeable to non-biased individuals.

Oh is that so? Such as what? You use an NFL Stadium and your campus looks like a giant toilet. I suppose the B12 should just throw money your way and THEN you'll build an OCS.

Your only valid point.

Larger Endowment helps football in what regard? Market Size is irrelevant if you can't even draw ratings (see Houston). USF's 4 wins comes mostly from a decade ago with P6 recruits compared to our Conference USA recruits. When the playing field has been leveled, we are currently 2-1. I hope we keep USF on the schedule if we go to the BIG 12 so we can show you what its like the other way around.

Well, let' see...

There was the time a few years ago when USF was opening up their brand new basketball arena, and UCF fans outnumbered and were louder than Cow fans in Tampa.

There was also the last game of our football rivalry played in Tampa where UCF fans could clearly be heard chanting UCF...UCF as the Cows trudged off the field in defeat.

There is also the fact that in your best year in over six years, when your football team was still in the hunt for a division championship, you still averaged 3,000 LESS fans per game than UCF did, despite our 0-12 finish.

I was at that game. It was awesome. I was embarrassed for USF.

Please. Stop with the USF is not relevant mumbo jumbo. They are by far our biggest rival. I hated it when the USF fans dismissed us and I hate it when UCF fans dismiss them. There is no team or program that we love to hate more than USF. ...
I wish it were so. It used to be, nurtured by USF's President, Jim Levitt, Miami wannabee arrogance and criminality of their players, their upstart rise into the rankings, exclusion of us from the Big East. Today, however, it's just a yawn. There are a lot more UCF students from southern Florida at UCF than from the west coast. The Tampa Bay area and USF hardly get mentioned in local news. Orlando is young and vibrant while the Tampa area is old and just plain boring. Finally, it now clear that P5 conferences in general and the Big12 in particular has no interest in accepting both of us as a package. It's all about accessing advertising media markets and recruiting areas, so only one team can be from each geographic market.

You just described why you hate them. If you think those reasons have disappeared you are wrong.

It is a rivalry. It is only a yawn last year because both teams were bad. UCF horribly so. Games only mean something when something is on the line. Last year we just wanted it over. It will remain a rivalry unless one team gets to a P5 and the other does not. Even then it will remain a rivalry until the gap gets too big.

Back to our regularly scheduled post... it seems "unofficially" official that the ACC Network (and thus the ACC GOR) is dead (ESPN is pulling the plug on it). Other P5 conferences are in full poach mode. Does not look good for UCF (or any AAC/G5 school). Expect to hear official announcements either late april or may.

According to this article below, you are way off in your assumptions. Why would ESPN want to have less games to broadcast by killing ACC anyway? And who says they have the power to do this?

No assumptions. This IS what is happening right now.

ESPN won't have less games. It will have more games on existing networks. It will have less infrastructure because of consolidation (we are talking hundreds of millions (if not billions) of dollars up front for a new network for equipment/property/etc plus reoccurring staff costs). The ONLY thing that was keeping the ACC together was the GOR. This no longer exists and teams WILL get poached away because of security/stability plus those other conferences will make more money by acquiring the higher revenue generating schools. There will still be plenty of games to broadcast (and much more sought after match-ups with higher ratings). And I'm not sure why the article was bragging about $45 million this year as they would have gotten $155 million with the network. The blogger is quite clueless (Boston College... go figure).

I think that's reading into it a little much. They did some research and the outspoken proponent of expansion may or may not get a seat on the board? You sound like a reporter spinning a turd into gold.
