"The Department of Homeland Security plans to ban laptops in the cabins of all flights from Europe to the United States, European security officials told The Daily Beast. The announcement is expected Thursday.

Initially a ban on laptops and tablets was applied only to U.S.-bound flights from 10 airports in North Africa and the Middle East. The ban was based on U.S. fears that terrorists have found a way to convert laptops into bombs capable of bringing down an airplane. It is unclear if the European ban will also apply to tablets.

DHS said in a statement to The Daily Beast: “No final decisions have been made on expanding the restriction on large electronic devices in aircraft cabins; however, it is under consideration. DHS continues to evaluate the threat environment and will make changes when necessary to keep air travelers safe

Maybe more airlines will do what Emirates has done and let you take a USB drive and the airline will loan you a laptop for your flight.

Correct

Taking laptops out of cabin and putting them in the cargo hold does nothing. Need better screening methods

Agreed but simply for more than that, especially if one was on travel for business. Seeing as how the airline is owned by the government, it would be pretty simple for them to load those laptops with viruses, spyware,... which would then be loaded on to your USB drive.

Oh for sure. No intent to divert from your point. Using USB media on a public device is akin to sticking your dick in a Las Vegas hooker with no condom and then going home and f***ing your wife afterward

I think they would care less about infecting your computer and care more about extracting whatever is on your USB stick for their own uses.

The French got busted years ago for having cameras above seats bought by CEOs and government guys on Air France flights.

It's both. Reading a book is nice. Gaining unfettered access to the library is even better.

Sucks for you plebes. Fly yourself across the pond and you can bring whatever the hell you want (like gallons of Raki)
