At this time in the past seasons there was a lot of certainty heading into spring ball in these 3 position groups.
Yes, there was typically a QB which we could say Gus was pretty much set on starting. However, in all 3 position groups there is more uncertainty than in the Gus years.
Should we be worried? I don't think so. I like the coaching and depth that we seem to have.
I like the competition that will bring out the best in these large areas of need. I actually feel
better with the QB competition than prior years. I believe Beckton is going to do a great job
with the WRs and like the players they have brought in for competing for starting positions.
I didn't have the same feeling because Gus would select 2 WRs and pretty much stick with them.
I expect more guys to make contributions at WR this season and to block better for the RBs.
The RBs have Montgomery looking like the lead dog but who else is going to pressure him
is yet to be determined. Don't know much about Nixon and not sure how badly Swint is injured?
I saw them using the TE already on short spring training clip pulling and blocking for the RB
which is a positive help for running game.
In the spring we like to think about fresh starts and we have one this season. My perspective is
if you can solidify these 3 positions this season, perhaps a bowl game AND next season we can
talk about competing for the championship again.
