Game #3 Thread

The defense played their asses off. What the F are you talking about, noob?
Defense played awesome, but the stat that is one of the best predictors of a team's success is turnover margin. The problem was OBVIOUSLY largely the 4 turnovers by the offense, no doubt, but the margin is not helped by us not being able to force any turnovers of our own. Unfortunately, we had to live with the freshman QB and his mistakes tonight. But just one INT or fumble recovery by us in a tie game could've won it. I'm not saying the defense is why we lost. I'm just saying turnover margin is why we lost, and that stat does have 2 components.

I honestly liked the guy. He obviously has some things to work on but I enjoyed his play more than Holman's. Scrappy and quick. There were a few times where I feel like his height made him miss open receivers. I'd still rather him play than Holman at this point.

Hey UCF. **NEWS FLASH***

You want our support, you want sold out games? WIN A ****ING GAME!
Hell throw us a bone and beat a team that's better than us, like this game.

I really gotta give Jerry, Marc and Co. Credit, theyre really great at making a shit sandwich taste good. It seems like Ive been hearing them say the same thing after a loss, over and over again.

Still waiting for this venerable Frost offense. All I see is an old school Nebraska running offense running 2 out of 3 downs.

Yes, agreed. Frost can beat his chest all he wants but when he runs the ball two time then has his tiny QB chuck up a prayer on each third down every possession he's basically playing O'Leary ball.

I try not to blame refs because they usually do a pretty good job, but how about a pass interference call. I thought Milton played really well for a first time starter as a true freshman. I certainly see what the coaches are talking about when they make comparisons to Johnny Football. The kid has some moves and was able to avoid free rushers on a couple of occasions. Hopefully he can improve on his accuracy. A lot of his passes were really high, negating much chance for run after catch. Defense played much better this week. I think when the season started virtually everybody had this one as a loss. The fact that we were in the game shows remarkable improvement over last year. Hopefully by next week either Holman is ready to go or Milton will have learned how to protect the football. If he does that tonight, we win.

I thought the team looked better this week than they did last week. If that trend continues, we will be a very tough out by the time we get to the 2nd half of the season.

Milton is playing like Storm Johnson did when he first got here. Always looking for the home run hit or trying to make something out of nothing. Just take the loss if nothing is there instead of trying to make some dangerous play like he did several times. I mean he looked natural in the position but he needs to realize this is D1 football not Hawaii high school ball, so he isn't gonna be able to get away with all that. I'm 50/50 on him, its his first game so you can't make too many judgments but all those turnovers were rough. Who knows, maybe he will clean it up.

Give me a break guys, the kid just started practicing with the one's this week. He was thrown into the fire against Maryland just as Godfrey was with NC St.

We will be fine, especially during conference play. We'll role some ppl. For a learning season im pretty happy with things so far. As the weeks go by I really think this offense will really start to click.

How was this Frost's fault?
1.) take the QB out if he can't handle the exchange consistently.

2.) don't get cute on special teams. (punting)

3.) put Killins in more.

Frost could have won this by playing a little GOL ball. He wants to go full throttle but doesn't have the talent on offense yet. Win with defense until your offense gets better, don't leave your defense on the field by doing stupid **** on offense. Chinander is the savior for this program.

What a bunch of whiny bitches. The kid is 18 years old and performed well for his first game against a P5 team. Such a nice change from O'Leary ball. It was fun to watch despite the loss.

The kid shouldn't have been in there. O'Leary ball would have won tonight. Geez, I hated typing that, now I need a shower.

1) take the QB out after the exchange problems? He had 2 right off the bat. We left him in and things worked. Holman has shown that he can't move the ball. Milton had the best passing game out of all our QBs this season, it was his first game! I'm glad they left him in.
2) don't get cute on special teams? Everything Frost called was perfect! The fake punt and going for it in 4th down was so gutsy! He didn't call the laudermilk fake run, he chewed him out for that. This point of yours is pointless!
3) put killins in more. Ok? But nowhere does that make him a bad coach.

Lol, oleary ball would not have won. He lost the heart of our team and the defense wouldnt have showed. Frost is playing to our strengths (moving to a 3-4 defense). Oleary ball wouldn't have the dline to compete. Just defense alone, oleary ball would have lost.

Now on offense, oleary would have never recruited killins or played him (your #3 above). Holman can't complete a pass; not since his sophomore year and oleary wouldn't be able to decide which QB to play.

The truth is, frost has one recruiting class so far. They don't have the experience or strength yet. However, 7 or so freshman are getting lots of playing time. The frost system will not be in full effect during the first year. Largely because of the lack of frost players.

Maryland was favored anywhere from 8-11 points against us. We played and frost coached an excellent game. I love watching our team play. We finally play with passion! I gurentee Milton will improve greatly from Maryland to FIU in the turnover department!

Holman and Patti were 19/35 for 241 yards against SCSt, an FCS team. Milton was 21/36 for 260 against a P5. He needs to work on ball security, but I have more faith he'll figure that out, than Holman will magically become an accurate passer this year.

I don't care if you have 500 yards passing, you can't turn it over 4 times.

Maryland was over rated and this is a game that should have been won by 2 touchdowns. FIU and the season is now in jeopardy.

Which do you think is more likely, Milton learns to protect the ball or Holman learns to be accurate after 3 years of no progress?

You act like they can't work together to manage a game and limit the turnovers. A healthy Holman would have won tonight.

A healthy Holman would have gone 8 for 24. Maybe we win, maybe we don't. I'd rather lose that game with a QB that can run the offense with some semblance of what it's supposed to be than win and build nothing. The OLine, the WRs, everybody needs game day experience with this offense and they weren't getting it with Holman and Patti.

Should have gotten the ball to AK a few more times....we seemed a little predictable at times....how do you let their QB run it down your throat three straight plays for a score?....
Those are my three takeaways...

Expectations for Milton to be Joe Montana in his first start are insane.

Yes he had some horrible turnovers. However, they are all attributed to being in the situation he was in.

Milton is several months out from being in HS for heaven sakes. Everyone had him projected as red shirting until 6 days ago.

Think about the sensory overload he was experiencing for a moment.

He goes from playing against opponents who are in HS 6 months ago..... To playing against frigging monster athletes flying around at such at unbelievable pace. Think about how much of a step up in competition, skill, strength, and speed that was for him.

What he did last night has me very excited. He made some plays that you don't teach. His ability to slide in the pocket. Scrambling while still looking down field. There were some really impressive skills shown.

Two of those fumbles where he or the Rb didn't read or execute the option exchange is such an easy fix that practice reps will most likely eliminate.

Let's all hope he gets a ton of reps this week in practice and builds on this week.

If you had told me potentially 2-2 going into conference play, looking like this? I'd have said you were insane. Now I understand Frost's comments about the defense. They look nasty (though thin). I'd say get out your check books. We need to keep this coaching staff. Against a good Maryland BIG team, the O line looked real. The defense looked nasty. Our QB can get it done. Our RBs can run like the wind. I don't know if MM will be a 4 year starter (new Frost recruits coming in), but I'll take it.

You know who made these kinds of game decisions during games? Bobby Bowden. In the mid-70s, when he went balls to the wall, played anybody who would fog a mirror, and made FSU what it is today.

And you know who made these kinds of recruiting and coaching decisions in the mid 80s? Jimmy Johnson. It's balls to the wall time. And I think we are going to win. Watch your ass, AAC. Our team is in a bad ass mood.

I agree! Not even great HS competition I might add

I'm actually happy we're playing FIU next. We need a guaranteed win next week (i know...i know) to get over this loss. Last thing we need is to play a legit team and go 1-3. Better 2-2 for the kid's morale.
Possibly 2-2 with a near 3-1 and improving every week. Seems like this is going exactly as planned.

We beat a crap team (sc state)

We lost to a great team. (Michigan)

We almost beat a decent to good team (P5) that would have destroyed us last year. (Maryland)

Now all we need to do is handily beat
A conference USA team away (FIU)

So you are admitting that he is not ready and someone else should play.
