QB wants a place ‘better suited for him’
According to his father, Dillon Gabriel’s decision to leave the UCF football program and enter the NCAA Transfer Portal wasn’t an easy one.“It was a tough decision,” Garrett Gabriel told The Orlando Sentinel on Saturday afternoon, after the junior quarterback made the announcement via his social media accounts. “But he wants to explore opportunities with a program that’s better suited for him.”
According to Garrett, his son’s decision to transfer might have come as a shock, but it was something he considered for quite some time. After consulting with his family, he decided to make a move, telling coach Gus Malzahn early Saturday afternoon. Gabriel worked tirelessly to return, but he also used this time away from the field to evaluate his future with the Knights. “He was thinking about it all through his injury and watching over the past six, seven or eight games he didn’t play,” his father said.
