Gun guys please enter, liberal pansies stay out

I would like to try before I buy. I've held a Shield and it's a little bigger than the Bodyguard which juuuuuuust fits in my back pocket nicely while the Sheild sticks out a some. Why do the S&W guys hate it so much?

As far as the Ruger LCP, I've never had a problem with it and I've put over two hundred rounds through it. I didn't find it unreliable at all. I know of two cops that carry the Kel Tec version as their personal carry weapons and they've put shitloads of rounds through that. I don't understand the hate.

Edit: I did a quick search of reliability issues on the LCP and everything I've read contradicts your statement about being unreliable.

They don't like it because it's too violent a round for such a frame. Don't forget that 9mm is actually a .356 caliber vs. a .380 caliber meaning the 380 will be more violent in a small polymer frame. I've shot it and it shoots like shit. THe Shield is a little bigger sure, but the stability and accuracy is no comparison.

The LCP? It's simply too f*cking small of a frame for that round.

So it isn't necessarily that the LCP is unreliable(which is what you posted)? it's more that you aren't a fan of the little .380 caliber pocket pistols which all have similar size frames.

Have you ever tried a Shield? I can't imagine needing anything smaller, but it actually shoots smoothly.

You can carry a Derringer too- it fits in your pocket. Just at some point you need to trade size for capability, capacity, and maximum stand off distance.

I used to have a Kimber Solo CDP 9mm, steel frame, and I sold it for the same reasons. Just way, way too tight to get a 9mm caliber (or .380) into a tiny frame. Magazines are extremely tight and even a slight mislead in the mag = failure to fire or misfeed.

Nothing to do with the 007 gun. Not a PPK. Polymer frame, slim, accurate. How about this, for me it is better. Shield is good, but did not fit my hand right.

My carry is a Bersa Thunder .380. Basically a PPK clone. I've put about 1,000 rounds through it and purchased a second one one. Both were under $200.00.

I also own (but don't carry):
Beretta 92D
Springfield 199 GI .45
Taurus 9mm
S&W .40

Agree with 85 on the LCP. I have a 9mm Ruger LCP that I carry sometimes. It's reliable but doesn't feel smooth at all when shooting. My glock 19 is a million times better. It's a little big to carry unless I'm wearing something loose but it's a much better gun.

I like my Ruger LCP .380. & my Baby Eagle II

I am contemplating the Taurus PT 92..

Just applied my my permit. The FL Dept of Agriculture in Orlando is the most efficient govt office I've ever been in. 45 min door to door. And I'm fast tracked for being ex military.

I'll be voting for Trump in no time.

That office is amazing. I had to renew my permit about a month ago and was out the door in 10 minutes.

It actually makes sense knowing you that you'd choose a Brazilian made piece of shit over the host of quality American pistols readily available.

Give the Springfield XDS a shot. My everyday carry is the Springfield XDS 9mm, but you can get a 45 in the same exact size which is a nice option. Definitely thinner than the Glock 26 and more accurate than any other handgun I've shot. My wife is getting her concealed carry now so I may pass the 9mm along to her and I may pick up the .45 for myself.

Agreed. I renewed my permit last Friday. I was there at 8:00 when they opened, handed over my driver's license, a $60 check, and the renewal notice - it took 15 minutes and that was because they were having problems with the cameras for some reason. I took my father-in-law with me since he was renewing also. It took him 10 minutes - I think it was him that broke the camera.

Any opinion on Kahr?

Kahr is respectable. I'm assuming that you're looking at the CW380 vice the P380 (the CW is less expensive)? It has a design similar to the Kel Tec and Ruger and is equally as reliable but not as expensive if I remember correctly - I had a former coworker who had one and he loved it. He never had any issues with it whatsoever. He did mention that the recoil spring on it is pretty beefy so racking the slide took a little getting used to.

Your last line is exactly the problem with these pocket .380 pistols. Their components are SO tight that there's virtually no margin for error and they're not dependable. My Kimber needed 147 gr ammo just to cycle and even then I would get slide stoppages from under pressure. Same thing you described too- the spring was so f*cking tight that successfully moving the slide to the near with sweaty hands was near impossible.

Also I highly recommend getting off the range at some point and taking an active shooter/defensive tactics course where you physically must move, engage targets, change mags, clear jams, etc while under stress. It's an entirely different world tryinig to do these things when you're moving around, sweating, and dealing with different environments. The .380 pocket pistols are horrid for these drills.

I'm finally getting my CCW as well. I don't know if I will actively carry but the application office is like 100 feet from my work and I don't think I need to do a gun safety course.

Anyone have experience getting it using a hunter safety course card? Even though it says that is an acceptable form for competency, for whatever reason I'm concerned about it not working and having to do another course. I did hunter safety like 19 years ago...

I have my appointment set up to walk in and do the application so I guess i will find out then if no one has any insight.

Good call on the CCW. Even if you decide not to carry, it helps protect you.

My guess is once you start casually carrying you will carry all the time. I kind of compare it to playing specific numbers on the lotto. If I play lotto its quick picks because I don't play every time and I'd never forgive myself if "my" numbers won and it was one of the times I didn't play. My thinking is opposite for carrying. Always carry because you'll never forgive yourself if you had the chance to save yourself or others and couldn't because you chose not to carry that day.

I guess what I meant was if he ever had to use his gun in the defense of his family/friends, having the CCW helps. Also makes you seem more legit while transporting guns.

I had buddies that used to give me shit for carrying in church.

Doesn't matter, they're all AR-15's.
Yes. "Assault Weapons," prominently displayed with an image of an AR-15 by the media, includes ...
  • All pistols with more than 7 cartridges, and ...
  • All shotguns with more than 2 shells
No, that's not just a joke, but reality.

I will probably never carry, even if I get my permit. I just don't want the responsibility.

But I refuse to patronize any place I cannot be with others that carry. I stopped going to BWW and a number Bar'n Grills for this reason. Just not worth the chance.

I honestly hope Florida refines the law to allow a "sober carry."

You'll be safe with me if we're eating together at BWW. One of the things you learn when you get your permit is where you can carry.

Of walking into a gun free establishment. Not worth being a target for a criminal who thinks he has free reign.

I hang around people with conceal carry for a reason.

I guess I was ignorant on the sign at BWWs saying guns were not allowed on the premises. Does that not apply to concealed carry permit holders? And yes, I haven't taken any courses yet for concealed carry, just the pair of basic NRA courses on firearm safety.

Even though I don't own, I finally decided, and my wife agreed, as long as the 2nd Amendment exists, I should not be ignorant of firearm safety and disarming.

The no guns sign at BWW carries as much weight as the women's restroom sign at Target. It's not illegal but the establishment does have the right to ban firearms. If for some reason they realize you are carrying (which should never happen) then they can have you trespassed and asked not to return (Disney does this often).

Which is why these "bans" are so stupid in the first place.

In Florida we only have concealed carry, and under Florida law, allowing your concealed firearm to be brandished in public COULD be deemed aggravated assault, even though there are bills on the floor to allow for "temporary brandish", in case you accidentally have your shirt lifted or something. I know of cases where guys were arrested for accidentailly having their pistol exposed around hysterical people.

So the only way for BWW to kick you out is if your concealed weapon is no longer concealed, which would technically be a violation of law anyways, which supersedes BWW's policy.

Criminals don't know where the gun free zones are.

Update. Went into the Brevard office July 12, whole process (FP, pictures, documents etc) took like 30 minutes. Received notice that my CCW was approved today, card soon. ~10 days. The 17 year old hunter safety card with an old address on it worked fine.

With your temper, I don't think they should have given you a CCW. You're just going to end up hurting yourself or someone else.

I'm surprised uncle boob and little rogerz haven't happened upon his guns during one of their Friday night porn and beer binges.
