Hamilton Injury

Knightline podcast is saying they heard from family that it's an ACL. Hope it's not.

I heard from someone that talked to a family member they thought it was an ACL. I did not get that first hand...AP

Gutted for the kid who did everything the right way to win the starting job. I hope it's just a sprain and he can get back to action in a few weeks.

We'll be fine regardless. That's our deepest position.

While UCF will have to manage...it would be a HUGE loss if UCF lost their young true freshmen starting RB...as he was a battering ram inside (with Wilson), which helped soften up DL's which lead to some big runs/screens by Killins.

There was a reason why Hamilton was starting...and to lose him before conf play even begins, would be a huge loss...let alone loss of basically a season that Hamilton could have used to grow his game.

With Hamilton starting...Wilson was able to come into games fresh...and the loss of that ability will hurt in coming games.

Cold hearted.
I said "I hope not" in the other post. What we learned is that neither Hamilton nor Milton is big or strong enough (yet) to risk running up the middle for tough yardage at the college-level unless it's a Patti-type TD opening off a fake. That's what you have Wilson, Jones, and Taj for. Perhaps after a year in the weight room, but even then.

Hamilton is actually built well for a Freshman. A recent article talked about how thick his neck was and Kevin Smith said that 'he will make people forget about me'.

He was the #1 choice for in between the tackles for a reason. I hope D. Wilson keeps tearing it up but Hamilton is very talented even if he hasn't had the flashy Killins type plays yet

So while we're just speculating, what's the immediate treatment for ACL. What I mean is, would he be put on crutches and allowed to "walk" the sidelines? Or, would they have been doing temporary treatment to help the swelling go down? -keeping him inside. Maybe it's not a tear.

if it's an ACL he is done for the season

if it's the MCL there is a chance he would be out 4-6 weeks

He would be on crutches, because it's unlikely he got an MRI for a confirmation diagnosis at FIU

Treatment now is often delayed surgery after swelling has subsided. Maybe about a week to 10 days

Usually can't get a redshirt after playing 4 games. If an ACL, even 10 month's til next year's August practices can be too soon for some. Certainly not for spring camp. If not, then who knows how soon. Lucky Michigan yesterday had it all over Penn State who was wracked by injuries. UCF injuries last season had a lot to do with setting off the meltdown last year. We've been very lucky so far, perhaps because of modern conditioning methods introduced.

Medical Hardship Requirements
To be eligible for a medical hardship waiver, a student-athlete has to meet the following criteria:

  • The student-athlete must suffer the injury during one of their four seasons of college competition or during the senior year of high school.
  • The injury must be incapacitating. That means it must be a season-ending injury.
  • The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season.
  • The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater.

He might have just missed it by a game, not sure though. I'm sure if its season ending, they can apply and see if he get its. Might have to challenge it since he might be a half a game over the limit.

Thanks for that info. Does a bowl game count as a game??

It may not help his case that he was the starter in all four games and leading team in rushing yards going into game 4.
We'll need to wait and hope for his swift recovery. It always surprised me how Kevin and Storm were virtually the only RB in the past 10 years to not miss a whole bunch of games due to injury.

Let's see. He's competed in 3 1/2 games. That's 29% of 12 games. Also, he's completed 3 games and played in the 4th. This is all speculation at this point, but unless the NCAA continues to be communists, he should get it. It's not like he's reshirted already anyway.

Not sure why that matters?

Not so.. It might be an ACL sprain. If it is just a sprain he could return this year with rest and rehab...no surgery required. Recovery time depends on the grade of the sprain.

Let's hope that's all it is. He is a fine RB.

I blew my knee twice. I didn't need crutches to walk around but it helped. They drained the blood on my knee that day to reduce the discomfort, I sat on the bench, MRI the next day and got under the knife in a week. Therapy for 8 months and back in practice in 10 months. That first week on the CPM machine is a bitch!

I love the way this dude plays and hope he isn't sidelined with an ACL reconstruction. Hopefully, its just a sprain or at worst a meniscus tear which could still have him out for 4-6 weeks. We'll see.

Not sure what provider you saw it on, if it matters, but I caught it on Directv and they showed the play, even in slo-mo. and could see it pretty well.

Me, too. It could have been on a prior play. That one athlete played with an ACL a while back, another with a broken leg. Milton was hobbling for 3 or 4 plays before being removed.
