Up until 5 years ago UCF football drove the ship for our University. Hitt could afford to make executive decisions that he thought would benefit the school and allow O'Leary almost total autonomy. Since then the school has massively outgrown our football program and there is a large upwelling of discontent in thousands of Alumni that now expect more compared to 2005 and can't be ignored or dismissed. Hitt is smart enough to know this group has enough donor potential to far outweigh 3-5 big donors.
We are at that tipping point where people will choose to spend their disposable income in the thousands every year on better options. Blind loyalty is not a part of our culture anymore. There is too much money at risk for Hitt to play roulette with the fans and program/conference reshuffle. There will be change.
