Herman Bye Bye?

Will we see the next rush for Frost in 1-2 years? Enjoy this season and next.
That's why Danny needs to work his magic and negotiate a Big Ten expansion invite (presumably along with BYU).

Since he'll want to continue his rise to a top AD position someday, Danny will also want to make UCF to the talk of the Orlando metro area. For example, today's Slantinel sports section had no front page mention (or "see inside") about the game tonight despite it being Senior Day at home, and wire service report of the basketball team's turnaround making it to a premium tournament's finals against defending national champ #3 Villanova.

As he just came from an urban, public university, it shouldn't take our AD too long to devise strategies to sell season tickets, fill CFE and BHS, and generate on-campus and alumni excitement and anticipation each year. Then big donors will provide the funds for the long-planned expansion of the stadium to 60,000+. A men's track team and new women's sport (to meet Title IX requirements) should also be on the agenda, since no new facilities will be needed initially.

Texas IMO has become a thankless job. Herman shouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. They expect national championships often and top 5-10 rankings every year or else the coach is a bum. Unreal expectations. The LSU job is much more desirable if available

Our AAC minor league coaches apprenticeships will again supply proven talent to the highest bidder in the P-5. Herman will take a Texas offer in a nano-second. Texas, the richest athletic program in the nation, needs merely to sweeten the package with a large enough buyout clause to ensure Herman gets a soft landing if fired. He's totally familiar with the Texas recruiting market, plays an exciting brand of offense and a devastating defense, just what Longhorn fans want. He's got to be the frontrunner!

Really? 10 million dollar buy out? That's crazy money if true. Kind of an incentive NOT to do good and get fired if you ask me....

Pollack makes a good point that Texas's boosters and President constantly meddling with talking to the media could make the Texas job less attractive to some despite all the advantages in Austin. If Herman leaves Houston, FSU or LSU might be a better choice if those jobs open

Serves Strong right, leaving Louisville. In my opinion, they wound up with a better coach.

I don't think that Herman should touch that Texas job. It's not a desirable place to coach anymore.

C'mon man. He had no choice. There are few jobs that are at the pinnacle of college football coaching and Texas is definitely in that group. That's like you failing as CEO of Google and me saying "You should have stayed at UCF."

To somewhat answer the second part of the question, I think it's more like 3-4 years till Frost moves on. Houston dominated for the few years the HC was there, as in ranked dominated. I don't see that in Frost right now. It will take a while for him to fill the team with his guys, then we may dominate. -Unless of course, offseason really clicks with Milton and he comes back a much better QB.

"Houston head coach Tom Herman is a factor here.
The truth is, when you have a head coach 164 miles away that’s beating teams like Oklahoma and No. 5 Louisville, the question has to be asked inside closed doors from the Texas boosters: “Why aren’t we, the biggest and baddest school in Texas, doing that?” ESPN’s Brett McMurphy reported on Nov. 19, after Houston’s 36-10 domination of Lamar Jackson and Louisville, that Herman was Texas’ No. 1 guy.

Thursday morning, Herman had a 21-3 record as a head coach at Houston, with an impressive resume as an offensive coordinator at Iowa State and Ohio State. He’d entered the season as a no-doubt coaching star after a Peach Bowl win over Florida State, then boosted his shine with a win over Oklahoma." -- http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2016/11/20/13132468/charlie-strong-fired-texas-coach

No other great jobs open or likely to soon because Texas is the only wealthy powerhouse that's floundering these days.

agree! Totally...like any UF head coach.

I wonder how did Herman take a 8-5 team with the prior coaches recruits and go 23-3 with them, while coach Frost can only manage a 6-5 record.***
Ok im serious about the first part of the sentence.

Ward was a sophomore going into his Junior season with a lot of experience. Frost has a lot more true freshmen playing than Herman did.

Remember that Sumlin had them performing well until he left. Then Levine came in. Apparently Levine could recruit but not coach. All the pieces were there for Herman, he had his dynamic junior QB unlike Frost.

I thought Briles was there before that. So Houston was already steeped in playing fast and run-option for years. Frost had to start from square one with no such training, culture, or recruits.

I've said it many times before. The Texas job sucks! Even if he takes it, it still sucks. Too much meddling by the boosters has destroyed that job.

Hope they are humbled and learn a lesson. They can't get ANY coach that they want. They whiffed on Saban and possibly now Herman. Let them keep Strong.

By the way, Fisher should never leave FSU. He's a God there and it's a lifetime gig.

Texas is the perfect job. They have been down for a while. Elite level budget and should get best recruits in Texas. Fans would give a few years for a turn around.

No...going to LSU is a worst job. They fired a head coach with a ridiculously good record playing in the SEC. Good luck for Herman making it 5 years at LSU.
Yeah, but Texas fans are not at all giving a few years for a turnaround and LSU has much better talent as we speak.

He'll be paid well regardless of where, or the outcome where he goes. Sounds like a win-win to me.

LSU is a harder job. Higher expectations, more competition, less resources, Nick Saban. Once you jump over the elite hurdle at Texas, maintaining that will be like coaching at FSU, maybe easier.

I think all of you are underestimating what the boosters have been like at Texas. It's extremely political and that's a HUGE turnoff to potential coaches even at the salary Texas is offering. It's worse than almost any other job. If a coach has 2-3 choices of equal salary, why wouldn't he go with the better situation??

The expectations are huge at Texas. They want to win national championships very quickly and they presently do not have the talent to do so.

LSU is a top 20 program as we speak.

Texas just lost to Kansas. Good luck dealing with rebuilding for 2-3 years at least with all those rich boosters making public comments. A coach is constantly looking over his shoulder.
