How deep-pocketed donors may be influencing head coach search ... this week's Knightline Podcast

I like cristobal and Collins neck and neck as #1. Both good recruiters and cristobal is way better than people are giving him credit for regarding his time at FIU. He would nail recruiting down in south Florida even more so than David Kelly. You win that area of the country you win on the scoreboard, period.

If not these two I like Randy Shannon. The guy deserves a second chance, and again great recruiter, which is half the battle.

Everyone else is either a pipe dream (Les Miles) or lower end.

And if the OS is right and Brian Polian is a serious candidate I will start looking for another team

For the last 9 years, 2 Univ of Miami Head Coaches "won" the recruiting battles in Miami...yet both were fired...as just because you land 4-5 stars from South Florida, that obviously doesn't mean you can win big, heck, not even your weak ACC Division (let alone Conf Championships or National Championships again).

Fair enough regarding UM, especially since Shannon was one of those 2 coaches. That being said there are many schools that have leveraged their strong recruiting ties into South Florida (ex Charlie Strong at Louisville) to drive success on the field. It still baffles me that we haven't done more to build up our pipeline down there.

Either UF candidate is good because of their recruiting ties to FL.

Where deep pockets will be required is in bringing in good coordinators with the new HC so we don't have a similar experience to what we had this season.

Stevieknight: Totally agree with you on the disconnect with south florida recruiting. TT
