I'm watching basketball!!!

BJ''s threat (and actual ones) to drive leaves Matt open on the wing.

BJ is a SCORING pt guard...something that is a must for any good team these days.
And Matt's been driving the baseline to the basket the past three games. And without much flair, Matt's been making critical steals, rebounds, and assists in addition to upping his 3-point shooting accuracy.

Great point. That clarifies the connection to Tacko's success with BJ's return.

Random question for an expert, would you rather see BJ develop more with assisting others or develop more in scoring? You know, if you had a magic wand.

I am pretty sure BJ can score when he wants. I think coach Dawkins tries to make sure BJ gets everyone involved instead of taking the shot every time. That being said I will go with assisting others.

Ditto. Assist guys don't nurse swollen bruises after the game. BJ gets slammed around on his drives. Against Stetson, he got rammed in the head three consecutive baseline drives before they finally called a foul. Each time, you could see his head jerk sideways. The new rules call every ticky tack hand checking foul, but major body contact before you actually take a shot just doesn't get called.

Should a win against UMASS get us into the top 25? I saw that we had one vote a few days ago but it disappeared after we creamed seattle

No, I don't think so. Think of the Top 25 in Basketball as the top 9. That is how the math works out at least: 20% of FBS football is the Top 25. 20% of college basketball 70 teams. Top 25 in Basketball is 7% or the top 9 in college football.

We would need to beat a top team and be like 10-1 before we get serious Top 25 votes, IMHO. It's easier to do in conference play bc we are a major conference. If we are in the top 3 of our Conference we should be in the Top 25.

RealTimeRpi is awesome.

We are #41 right now. UMass is #75. Nova is #6 and usf is #235 lol for perpective.

I doubt we would be ranked after beating UMass. But looking at the schedule if we can win against UMass there is a very real chance we could enter the New Years Eve home game vs Temple ranked with a 12-1 record.

I like the optimism! Unfortunately or fortunately, the rest of out of conference opponents in the 300 range in RPI except for UMass #75 and UPenn #134. Unfortunately that doesn't give us a chance to beat a good team and make a statement. Fortunately, bc our program just needs wins. And Johnny is trying to develop a winning mentality.

We will see if we have that killer instinct if we beat the rest of the out of conference opponents like we beat Stetson.

This early in year too many teams are undefeated or 1 loss. Add in that the top teams that are playing each other and have 2 losses are perceived better. Keep winning and it will happen.

I agree. BJ does seem like he can score at will. He has more potential of improving his game overall, and helps the team the most by developing more in assisting others. After all that is suppose to be the primary role of a PG.

But personally, I really enjoy watching BJ score. He reminds me of myself when I go play street ball.

What elementary school do you play at?

UCF favored by 3, but it will be a huge noisy home crowd! So don't be surprised if we lose.
Five years ago (or was it six?) when we started out with a long string of victories, it was like 13-0 when we first got ranked (19th?). Marcus Jordan repeatedly making top ten plays video with incredible drives. Cracking the rankings, as in football, is a huge hurdle for an outsider. A former P-5 coach Dawkins and dominant player with a lot of press like Tacko also helps.

Were ranked at 10-0 that year and eventually were 14-0 but had wins over Florida and Miami before getting ranked. Florida was a top 10 team that year.

Prepare for Hack-O-Tack-O. Eventually opposing coaches will try it.

"Free-throw shooting is his biggest weakness as he makes just 27.6 percent from the line."

At least Tacko went 4-6 vs Stetson from the FT Line...as he was around 16% prior to that game.

If he can hit 67% of his FT shots like he did vs Stetson, UCF will win a lot of close games this year. (Fouls on Tacko also help get UCF into the bonus...where players like Williams, BJ and AJ can take advantage of a lot of 1-1 situations.

Plus if they decide to do that they will have to use 11 people. I'll take our chances against 6 bench players.

First, Tacko shot over 50% last year, swished his last 4 straight Wednesday, has a good stroke, and practices diligently.
Second, he's much stronger and mature on the court this season, hackers risk 3-point plays most times now.
Third, swarming him to give him no space to move or catch the ball has drastically reduced his scoring the past 2 games, but that makes opponents vulnerable to our open 3-pt shooters, BJ's deadly short jumpers and floaters in the lane, and the latest wrinkle: Tacko assists to cutters under the basket (especially with AD back).
