US Urges ‘restraint’

The Indian Air Force crossed into Pakistan for the first time since 1971 to carry out a 21-Minute mission using Mirage-2000 Jets and laser guided bombs against targeted terror base camps.

Indian officials claim the base camp, occupied by Jaish-e-Mohammed, housed as many as 300 fighters. This strike took place after Jaish-e-Mohammed fighters killed over 40 Indian security forces in an apparent suicide attack.

The US has urged caution between the two Nuclear armed nations who both lay claim to the region of Kashmir.

Tensions in Kashmir have persisted at high levels for the past year. An exchange of gunfire, unrelated to the above incident, between Pakistani and Indian forces resulted in 7 deaths (including children).

Pakistan government has stated it reserved the right to retaliation due to the incursion into their airspace. Pakistan’s military has downplayed the incident, likely staving off an embarrassment similar to that experienced after UBL was killed by US Navy Seals in Abbottabad.

JeM exists for the sole purposes of reclaiming the disputed Kashmir region, and its Muslim occupants, and returning the region to Pakistan. Indian officials believe JeM was created by ISI (Pakistani Intelligent Services) to operate against India via proxy. Some media sources have written the attack off as political posturing during an election year for India’s government. (KG)

Update: 2 Indian planes shot down. Pakistani planes forces back toward Pakistan and Airports closed. Reuters updates via twitter: https://twitter.com/reuters/status/1100633385201008640?s=21

And on that note Pakistan shot down an Indian Mirage 2000 aircraft

Claiming two (2).

At the altitudes involved, doesn't surprise me. Although India has had great service with the Mirage 2000 as an attack aircraft, especially with precision weapons, at the altitudes and the age of the aircraft, it's not a surprise. India has been trying to buy the Rafale for a reason. I honestly wish the US Navy had the Rafale-M, possible based on the original Rafale-A prototype with the F4x4 series engine (same as F-18 series), don't get me started on the benefits over any US naval aircraft (let alone footprint and logistics in carrier bay).

In any case ... one of these days India and Pakistan will come together and recognize the area is a breeding ground for radicals, and share jointed governance, instead of fighting one another. Past Pakistani administrations used to leverage terrorist elements, and has come to grips with that that has sown in the last couple of decades. Either that, or China will just take it all over instead.

Nuclear war is the more likely scenario.

India probably has a problem with the Pakistanis again supporting and harboring terrorist groups on their soil. It doesn't help that the border in Kashmir is still disputed.

Either way, they'll diffuse the situation. I doubt either side wants to risk a massively shitty war over some asshole Jihadis hanging out in the mountains.
