Is Dylan Rizk our future QB?

I’m hoping the new hire brings a Qb with him. Or at least a hs signee that ge can call his own. If he just rolls with what’s here he has built in excuses.

Some years that was true that QB play was mixed to poor, like 2006, 2008, and 2011 where we ended up playing 3 guys or more (2015 was its own disaster). Other times, we had guys put up stats like:

2005 Moffett - 60% completions, 22 TDs, 9 Int, 2 rush TDs, 2,925 yrds
2010 Godfrey - 67% completions, 13 TDs, 8 Int, 10 rush TDs, 2,159 yrds, 566 rush yrds
2014 Holman - 57% completions, 23 Tds, 14 Int, 3 Rush TDs, 2,952 yrds, 189 rush yrds

2005 - Conference championship game
2010, 2014 - Conference Championship
These are Mikey Keene's stats. Look at his last 2 seasons as a starter. They're the same or better than our past championship QBs. This is the same QB fans on this board repeatedly berated as a true freshman. "Bad mechanics, noodle arm, horrible, anyone is better."...on and on after every game. Well, in the end, the kid proved every fan board talent evaluator wrong. Rizk may do the same...he too is young. Players can develop. We sure could have used him.

And never forget who beat the Florida Gators....that true freshman named Mikey Keene.

From the time I saw his HUDL tapes, I always thought Keene was a good QB. I was sad Gus ran him off.

He got put on the Gus bus that had stops in Oklahoma, Fresno, California, and Boston. And we were left here with a bus with those who had no arms

For the offense he wanted to run, Keene wasn't a fit.....anybody remember how glacially slow he was (and still is). For Fresno, he has been a good starter but not setting the world on fire, so what did we miss out on?

I'll tell you the ex-QB we should have kept is Parker Navarro now at Ohio. Has his team in the conference championship, runs with a good combination of speed and power (about to go over 1,000 yards rushing this year and 13 rush TDs....6.6 yrds per rush) and has improved some as a passer (still not great but better than anything we put on the field).

How about a QB that can actually throw a forward pass? Sometimes just a game manager that doesn't cause turnovers can win you ball games. Or a guy that can move the sticks on 3rd down.

Yes, we didn't have anyone this year who could pass themselves out of a paper bag.

He was a slow runner and he didn't want to run (if needed)

Nailed it. Apparently, some talent evaluators on this board think the Dillon Gabriel’s of the world are standing on every corner waiting on UCF…. and if you don’t throw for 300 yards and 3 TDs every game you “suck”.

I guarantee we win more than 4 games this year if we had Mikey Keene as our QB. We also win more than 6 games last year as long as Gus adapts his play calling to Mike’s strengths…like he did his first year.

Gus’ problem and downfall was his unwillingness to adapt to the strengths of the players he actually had. As has been said ad nauseum …He wanted Cam Newton, but recruited runners who couldn’t pass. As you stated, game managers can win games…and we did miss out. We missed out on Ws when Mikey left.

Watching our rotating and poor QB play…..and mounting losses since Mikey’s first year has been excruciating. I’ve never suggested Mikey is or would be a great QB, just that he could be good if allowed to develop and it was unfair to judge him so harshly as a true freshman.

Mikey wasn’t DG or McKenzie Milton, but then again there are only two of them and they’re rare. Other than Culpepper and Bortles every UCF QB will look bad if making that unfair comparison.

This past season’s qb play and losses was very hard to watch. Apparently, some talent evaluators still think it’s easy find a QB that helps us win 9 games….even though we haven’t found one after 4 years…after watching this terrible season’s qb play and having only 2 fbs wins…I’d say we missed out.

Gus is a system coach. He knows nothing else. He cannot adapt to talent n strength of his players because doesn’t know anything but his HS offense

Unless there is better QB that is recruited, I see the 3 QBs who have had playing time on our roster competing next season for the job. Personally, I have no problem with HC using 2 QBs next season; it worked with the Gators in the past when they won the Championship with Tebow running in short yardage and goal line situations while other QB with his passing skills was used most of the offensive series. You do that until you get an exceptional QB who does both well. You don't keep one QB in one time because they might have their feelings hurt, the truth hurts suck it up.
