Let me say that I am 100% for equal play for equal work regardless of race or gender. But in this case (linked below) we've got a comedian I've never heard of (her name is Mo’Nique) suing Netflix because they 'only' offered her $500,000 for a comedy special when Chris Rock, Ellen DeGeneres, Dave Chappelle, and Amy Schummer are making millions.

Maybe this is because those are well-known stars who will draw in Netflix viewers. Also, Netflix was involved in negotiations. If she didn't like what they were offering her, she could take her services to another streaming service or counter offer Netflix.

I bring this to light because I think this kind of lawsuit hurts the cause of legitimate victims of discrimination.

She definitely deserves more than $500k if the others are getting millions. She isn't as big as the other comedians but she's at least Wanda Sykes level of comedy.
Tiered
1.) Rock, DeGeneres, Chappelle
2.) Schumer
3.) Monique

Plus she might have an underground following that we don't know about, like George Lopez. I don't follow Monique, I remember that she was kinda funny in the 90's.

Equal pay for equal work sounds good when you're listening to some socialist propaganda speech. In reality people are different with different skill sets. The value is different based on all kinds of reasons.

Entertainment industry is the same. There is no such thing as equal pay. Different people and different value.

Let me get this straight: she is claiming discrimination and cites 2 black men and a gay womans contracts as proof? Is the world upside down or is it just her?

I've heard of Chris rock, Dave chapelle, and Ellen DeGeneres. I have no idea who monique is. I realize I'm just giving anecdotal evidence here, but she's comparing herself to 3 extremely well-known celebrities. This doesn't seem like discrimination, it seems like an attention grab.

she doesnt deserve the same level of money as the others. if this special were to be a massive hit, then maybe her next netflix comedy special could be right up in the million dollar range. you gotta start somewhere. you have to build your name/brand. that is how it works.

this lawsuit might turn other media companies like hbo away from doing business with her in the future. shed better be careful.

I kind of remember who she is but I’ve never seen her standup. We all know the difference is if Chris Rock/Dave Chappelle have a stand up a LOT of people are going to tune in and watch it.
