There she was, wedged into her seat and braced for another economy flight, when the smell began wafting back from first class: freshly baked chocolate-chip cookies of which she and her immediate seatmates would get exactly none.

"We could all smell them," said Katy DeCelles, who teaches organizational behaviour at the University of Toronto. "Something like that makes you very aware of the fact that you are not being treated as special as someone else."

Damned plebes.

I don't get the rage. When you purchase the ticket, you know what you're paying for. I don't think it's fair that not everyone has enough money to fly in the first place. We need Obama Jets.

Funny enough, many European airlines have had to remove first class from EU flights due to the parasitic socialists in their countries going batshit over "class divisions". Many airlines like Scandinavian have had to hide premium offerings and call them "Economy Plus", which do not include a nicer seat. They just block off the seat next to you.

The Sanders people would love it over there. There's plenty of offended socialists to cheer on.

And now I'm pissed in advance that airline tickets will go up so that people can feel "equal".
Just fly me there. I will supply my own snacks, music, and pillow.

There won't be any changes anytime soon. Our airlines aren't subsidized by the government like many are in Europe. Once they become subsidized then changes will start to occur, but for now the revenue stream that Business Class and First Class provide is way too good. But you're right, once they are no longer available, the prices will go up.

Younger people are so self obsessed and have this weird urge to control everyone, I just don't get it. Do the math. It will cost you $650 to fly from MCO to Denver CO in a fifty seater with no first class. It will cost you $800 to fly to Paris France with a bunch of big wigs paying $5,000 a piece up front. I'll take the ticket subsidy, thank you very much. What is so effing stupid is that if all the seats were equal, this same person would be suggesting that the more wealthy travelers pay more so her seat would be cheaper.

This really is perfect.

She's probably fat.
Without a doubt. I fly often. I usually try and fly Southwest cause it is cheaper for my clients who ultimately foot the bill. I always fly on their business select program which means I'm first on the plane. I have flown enough with SW that I get some free perks such as a Companion Pass and free WiFi, etc.
Anyway recently had to depose a doc at Duke University. Flying back I'm in my usual seat on the first row by the aisle. This HUGE fat cow woman comes lumbering on and takes the middle seat next to me. Her fat rolls over the armrest into my space. I'm leaning into the aisle to try avoiding touching her but it's no use.
She notices that I'm on the Internet via WiFi and demands to know how she can get it for her phone. I explain that unless she has free WiFi through SW she will have to pay for it. I even show her on the SW magazine how to go about getting it. She gets frustrated and demands that let her connect to my phone
I politely refuse and she gets really huffy, then tearful then mad. Miserable fricking flight with this super fat, ugly SJW of a cow

BTW- f*ck that person who said we should do away with first class having its' own dedicated bathroom.

I get bumped up on Delta a lot since I have put nearly 1M miles on that goddamn airline. So yes, I do expect to have access to that bathroom amongst a small group when I've either forked over a lot of money or paid for it via countless hours in the air and at airports. I do not give a shit if Betty sitting in coach is upset about it while on her first flight of the year, going an hour south from Atlanta to Tampa for her weekend getaway.

SWA sucks for that exact reason, the ONLY good thing is the companion pass, otherwise I'll stick with Delta

Here's the deal, like 85, I travel a-freaking-lot. One day, when I don't have to travel anymore for business, I will gladly trade the few "perks" I get for a seat in the back of the plane. Until then, bring me the hot washcloth and unlimited rotgut wine.

Just give me my free drinks. Don't care if Eco plus fliers get that bathroom up front but keep the regular scum in the back of the plane.

I had to suffer on an American plane yesterday for a direct flight to Philly. They had at least 90 people board the plane before any general boarding began. I've never seen that much with a Delta flight even out of Atlanta

Hate all these fricking "preboarders" who look perfectly normal to me. Also, when did flying with your damn dog become such a thing. On long flights the dog will piss and shit and we're supposed to think it's cute or we're viewed as haters.

I don't know, I see soooooooo many people board in Sky Priority with Delta. Like half the plane.

In fact I told Delta that they should make early boarding for Platinum Elite or above only. It's too damn easy to make Silver.

That Monday morning 5:20am flight from MCO-ATL is probably 75% sky priority.

Also, you do realize that the Business Select ticket for SWA is more than likely more expensive than a normal ticket on any other airline, right?

Yea, at least Gold or higher. Silver is a joke. Make that Zone 1 guarantee. I think that's the issue with American is that they put everyone with any status or that has their credit card in that grouping.

I'd like to see the old Midwest approach of the 2x2 planes where everyone had legroom and we all got hot cookies. I loved flying them back in the day

Why on earth are you flying at 5:20 am?

I frequently take the 5:30am out of Charlotte to get on my way to start the day. It means I can spend all day Sunday with the family and am not hitting my travel budget for a Sunday night hotel stay. That flight is cheaper than taking the 7:30 too.

Not all of us can bilk the military industrial complex :)

ahem, "Emotional Support Dogs"

Blame your brethren who made it a legal thing

My favorite flight was one I had to San Juan where there were 14 pre-boarders that needed extra time down the jetway but 12 of them walked off the plane under their own power once we landed.

Meh, I travel on Sunday all the time. Sometimes Saturdays too if going overseas.

I'd much rather pay the $150 for a hotel stay vs. getting up at 3:00 am.

:cool2:
That'll change when you have kids. ;)

Maybe but there's no real choice when going to Europe.

Gotta get the red eye flight over Saturday night, land somewhere in the morning, get to your final destination, then rest up for the meeting Monday. Unless you're going to Asia or Australia; then you just accept that you'll have no f'ing idea what day it is when you eventually land.

If you're so emotionally crippled that you can't fly without a dog then don't fly

all bets are off for international, but I see no reason to travel on Sunday for domestic business. If the customer needs me that badly, they'll work around my availability. I don't make my folks travel on Sundays and if they have to, I give them Fridays off

It's not emotional as much as it is people not wanting to spend the $75 to board their dogs on the plane or board them while they travel.

I want to book a flight and add to the notes "extreme dog allergy" to see what that triggers from the airline. If they won't serve peanuts on flights where someone has an extreme allergy, I wonder if they'll block people with ESA's from booking a flight if someone with an extreme allergy is already booked.

Do it. Report back.

For those who fly a lot, how do you keep from getting sick after being in those flying petri dishes for so long? The odds have to catch up to you sooner or later being so close to so many people.

My theory would be their immune systems are developed due to having to fly that much.

Shame on @Whataknight ripping bilking the milking the industrial military complex. How else will we get our future terrorists the best in weapons?

Have to get to client sites by 10 or 11, and that's the only way I can do it with the Atlanta connections. This week I got to get on the 6:20, so that was nice, but I had to go to MDW instead of ORD because of cost, which just added an extra 30 minutes of drive time.
