It isn't fair! Air raging plebes in economy seats.

For those who fly a lot, how do you keep from getting sick after being in those flying petri dishes for so long? The odds have to catch up to you sooner or later being so close to so many people.
Between flying and having two toddlers, I am pretty much immune to most of everything. Every once in a while I'll get a little cold, knock me out for a day or two, but I generally recover pretty quickly. That and a ton of Mucinex.

I rarely get sick - maybe 1 or 2 times a year and most of it is when I've run myself into the ground more than anything else

I don't know, I see soooooooo many people board in Sky Priority with Delta. Like half the plane.

In fact I told Delta that they should make early boarding for Platinum Elite or above only. It's too damn easy to make Silver.
At least it's split up. Silver just gets you Zone 1 - same for simply having a gold delta AMEX. Delta boarding goes: Pre-boarding, First Class, SKY, Zone 1, Zone 2.

i didnt read the article but are people really mad that first class exists or is it more acknowledging simple sociological human thoughts/reactions to there being a first class that you have to walk through and 'smell'?

it would be like owning a $250K house sandwiched between two $1MM houses. It's not that you didnt know what you were paying for or even dislike your house at all - but it'd be a natural human thought to feel self conscious about it.

I don't hate 1st class. What I hate is the stupid Economy Plus, which on some airlines *cough* *united* *cough* where they don't book seats until you check in, is where they stick the last few remaining passengers. So you either pay for the pleasure of the marginally better legroom (whoo-hoo 2 inches!) and free movies/games (if available), or you get it for free for being the last plebe on the bus. And then those who have paid for it get to stew at those who got it assigned at the last minute. It's not based on seniority either, but rather remaining capacity. The worst for me was when I purchased it because I wanted to have the extra room (I'm also in the big & tall category), but then had some roly-poly woman get assigned next to me who was fatter than me, but only 5'2". I literally couldn't move. So what did the extra $50 get me? Nothing but 5 hours of the least comfortable flight ever.

What's the better airport? OIA or TIA?

I've yet to find an airport better than TPA in my many travels. Honestly it's the most efficient, well organized, convenient, well maintained, and best served airport in the country. It's not uncommon for me to get off the plane, get to the landside terminal, go to baggage claim, and find my bag already waiting for me.

Not to mention they're putting in awesome restaurants in addition to what they aleady have. The Delta Sky Club's complimentary beer is Cigar City Jai Alai. Amazing.

think about poor Chemmie. For such a world traveler, bet he has to buy 2 seats for his big douchey ass.
I'm shorter, and I weigh less...and I've only flown coach twice in the last 5 years. I fly business or first in order to stay away from plebes like the toolbags in this thread.

MCO is a shithole, TBH. When my wife worked for Tupperware, I went to the airport twice trips a month to drop her off and pick her up and it is the most unorganized and shitty airport I've ever had to deal with.

I'm spoiled with Dulles now. Now that's an airport that has their shit together, and it's still growing.

i usually defend everything South Florida - but FLL has MCO beat as far as terrible airports go. Both inside and outside (traffic/drop off lanes/rental car shuttles that are overcrowded and take forever) it's terribly run.

MCO is no picnic, but the real problem with it is the overcrowding for TSA. DEN sucks worse than MCO as far as getting in/out with a fraction of the crowd. The meal options at DEN are far better though. Kansas City is a shitty airport too, as is Omaha. Memphis blows, too.

I find MSP to be the best one I travel through. I never mind getting stuck there when it does happen

MCI Is the absolute worst airport for a business traveler or if you are stuck there for more than 30 minutes. If you get there right as your flight is ready to board it's awesome.

United does give complementary economy plus to gold and above. So there is some seniority involved. The programs are all horrible though between mergers and the people that game the flight miles.

This. I flew in first on Delta recently on miles. Everyone seemed kinda cool, so I mingled around the cabin a little. Everyone I talked to was burning miles before they get devalued even more.

I can email legit complaints into Delta & get 5000 miles thrown into my account. It takes me 4-6 flights (I only do up/downs out of Charlotte & never over the Mississippi River) to get that many miles. I was able to cash in 78K to fly my family down to see my folks in Ft. Myers next month but it's typically running me 35-40K miles for just me if I want to go anywhere. Gone are the days of 25K miles getting you just about anywhere domestically.

That's the nice thing about international travel. I can rack up 80,000 miles over and back if I use codeshare airlines while overseas too.

Back in the day, I had all of the US & could cash in my Amex monthly bills for points so I was piling up miles. Now? Just east coast & we lost that privilege so I get more points using my personal Delta Amex for miles. It takes me 2-3 round trips to get what I make back in Delta points each month on my personal card.
