I've always considered myself a fiscal conservative and a social progressive, even back in my card-carrying Republican days.
But when fiscal responsibility went out the window and legislating morality because the GOP's MO, I saw no reason to stick around any longer. Since then, the party has been doing their damnedest to weed out even more of us RINOs.
This is the type of attitude that is concerning to me. How you and many others can know these things happened, and basically think it is no big deal, just because he didnt succeed, essentially opens the door for someone to succeed later. You seem to have the view that if someone doesnt succeed at something, that they werent attempting something, without even remotely considering, that the next time, the person (whether that be Trump or someone else), might very well succeed.

I just read today that a state legislature in my state that wants to pass a bill that gets rid of early voting, but also, makes voters use their fingerprints to vote. I live in one of the most Republican and "conservative" states in the country. So apparently, having the state keep a database of fingerprints on voters is an example of small government conservatism, at least in my state.
Why does it have to be prior to the election? You are making up your own rules and expecting others to play along. That isnt how this works. Plenty of authoritarians rise to power in legal ways, and use illegal means to hold on to that power. That is precisely what Trump tried to do, and that is precisely what you deny. Prior to the election he certainly alluded to holding onto power no matter the results, which is where a lot of what you are talking about came from. You can either believe what happened right in front of your eyes, or not believe it, I cant help if you choose to live in denial instead of reality.
The same was true with the circumstances surrounding Trump's first impeachment.
Trump essentially was acquitted because the whistle blower sounded the alarm before he got the Ukrainian President to throw some dirt on Joe Biden.
Yep. The fact he still has supporters both in congress and in society after everything is concerning to me. We are essentially seeing the groundwork being laid for someone to take power in this country, and not give that power up. We are very much downplaying what could have easily been a disaster to American Democracy. Even besides the attack at the capitol, the next time a president calls a sec of state to change the results, that sec of state might very well do it. Senators might very well not certify votes if their candidate doesnt win, state legislatures might not honor the will of their voters, etc etc. I honestly think we are potentially heading to dangerous times for this country, and the people downplaying everything that happened, are the biggest part of the problem.
Here is the deal. Please stop comparing conservatives to NAZIS and Hitler.

Hitler by and large did evil deeds however was he a great man? He changed the world and influenced society however in a negative way. The point is this radio guy did good radio and changed the industry but was consider by many to be toxic and generally bad to the overall system. Was he a great man? Not sure how you made the leap to republican vs democrats????
Then I challenge you to do your history homework. True Conservatives love liberty. They love the Constitution and Bill of Rights. They were the abolitionists and they lead women's suffrage for the vote. They all voted for the civil rights legislation in the 1960s.

If you read the Constitution and Bill of Rights, then read what NAZIS stood for, read Karl Marx Communist Manifesto . Use the Venn diagram to see what philosophies have an union . You will find NAZI ( National socialist) and Communists ideals have things in common. You know you what you won't find ? You wont find the US Constitution and Bill of Rights intersecting with either of those. You won't find the writings of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison or Patrick Henry remotely coming close to what Hitler and Stalin espoused .

If the very worst of what you say is true, Trump succeeded in getting some people together that broke a couple windows, and a woman got shot by the police (which suddenly isnt an issue for yall when the victim is a Trump supporter) once, in 4 years of his Presidency. The riots in the Summer were in regards to civil rights. YOu might not agree with them, and that is fine, but they were most certainly not riots to over throw Democracy. If you cant understand that significant difference then that's on you.
If you want to criticize the riots over the Summer that is perfectly fine, and we probably have quite a few points we would agree on with that. But changing the subject from the riot at the Capitol to what happened over the Summer is simply you changing the subject. So I will ask point blank, do you support what happened at the Capitol? Do you think trying to over turn election results when your side loses is being pro-Democracy?

Or is it because he openly disagrees with the result of the election? They can't. Trump never asked for anything that was illegal, although his rhetoric wasn't helpful. Taking his accusations and "evidence" to court is the democratic way to challenge an election, and ultimately he left the white house.
