Glad you are so excited about remaining in the AAC for eternity!

Do you seriously believe the Big 12 is going to add a school that went 0-12 in football last season and has lost 13 straight games?

Do you seriously believe the Big 12 is going to add a school that has a basketball program that is in the cellar of the AAC?

This announcement is supposed to galvanize the Big 12, its fans, its alumni, and the tv networks. I just can't see that happening at this time for UCF. It's too bad you guys $hit the bed last season, horrible timing.

Hi, my name is Bearcat Nipple. I like to spend my time urinating on the hopes and dreams of other teams in Cincinnati's conference because I deep down realize that A) Cincinnati doesn't have a chance of advancing into a better conference and B) the Cincinnati message boards are depressing because all our other fans realize this. So I prefer my delusional fantasy world where I poop on other fans via the internet to make myself feel better.

It really is not looking good for UCF to be part of the expansion. We picked a bad time to go 0-12........ I know one years record isn't everything they look at in potential expansion candidates, but UCF is at the bottom of the list of all the news outlets. We're is the love? Dr. Hitt needs to go talk to his ESPN sources again. Fingers crossed.

Twelve hours ago all the news outlets were 100% sure that expansion was dead. They don't have a clue.

I like Memphis. Been to FedEx Forum a few times. I hope you all make it in as well!

So "sports writer" from Memphis tweets how people not from Memphis underestimate their chances of moving to Big12? Not much different from Bianchi in Orlando doing the same thing. Go share this garbage on the Memphis message boards. Although my guess is judging by the amount of time you spend on the UCF message boards you have probably been banned/completely ignored over there. Memphis thinks throwing FedEx money at the Big12 will overcome the complete lack of interest in Memphis athletics outside of basketball, which people only pay attention to when they start to go deep in NCAA tourney. And yes, these comments are not based on any television statistics/data, because, well frankly I don't care. You are a Memphis fan who spends too much time on our message board being negative, talking up your crap program while badmouthing UCF.

The scuttlebutt on twitter has explicitly mentioned the following are expansion requirements:

Strength of athletic program, fan base, media market, reputation and academic standings.

Since the discussions revolve primary around football, here have been your record for the last 10 yrs. If they were targeting basketball strength, Gonzaga and Villanova would be mentioned, but they're not.

9-4 2015
10-3 2014
3-9 2013
4-8 2012
2-10 2011
1-11 2010
2-10 2009
6-7 2008
7-6 2007
2-10 2006
7-5 2005

1 top 25 win in 10 yrs.

53 wins out of 136 games, no conference championships, no BCS wins, and no 1st round picks...doesn't translate much to strength of an athletic program.

Ranked 49th in media market strength
US News doesn't have Univ of Memphis ranked

"We are looking for members that will grow over time as we grow," Bowlsby said. "That bring stability. That have a high top end."

In my humble opinion. That tells me right there that UCF is qualified. We haven't reached our ceiling yet. The other schools have. Carry on.

If UCF doesn't get an invite to the B12. So what! I will only be a little disappointed. At least our ticket prices won't take a big jump. I will still renew my season tickets. I will still go to the games. I will still party like a big dog and have a great time. And i still won't give a shit about those shitholes Memphis and Cincinatti.

Yes. Because the selection team won't be as short sighted as idiot fans on message boards. Jesus H., do you seriously believe a committee that has to make a decision this big is going to simply look at the W-L record front he previous season to make their decision? Because if you do, Cinci will be sitting right next to us on the AAC bus.

For the brain dead that can't get past 0-12....

The Big 12 isn't making any decisions before the 2016 season starts. We're probably still 1-2 years away before they make a decision, if they even decide to expand.

They will look at history....and they will see multiple conference championships, bowl victories and a BCS Bowl Win. They'll see multiple draft picks including the #3 pick. Does Memphis have that? No. Does Cinci have that? No. Does USF have that? No. Does UCONN have that? No.

Here are the comments that Boren and Bowlsby made about what they would be looking for in expansion candidates. Note how UCF is the only school that dominates almost all of the categories.

Boren

We’re looking at the strength of the athletic programs, their competitiveness.

In the first year of the AAC, UCF had more conference championships across all sports than any other school. In football, UCF won the first AAC Championship and went on to a dominant win in the BCS Fiesta Bowl against B12 champion Baylor then went and won a share of the championship again the second year.

We're looking at the fan base

UCF has consistently had higher fan attendance averages than Houston, Cincinnati, Memphis, USF, and UCONN almost every year over the last decade.

We're looking at access to media markets.

UCF’s media market is significantly larger than Memphis, Cincinnati, and UCONN. The media market rank of those three schools is actually getting worse while Orlando has been getting better. Don’t give me any crap about UCONN having the NYC market. That would be like claiming that UCF has the Tampa market. Houston has the #4 TV market, but their TV ratings have been no better, and often worse than UCF's TV ratings.

We're looking at the academic standards of these universities, the level of research and teaching at these institutions.

There are so many different rankings it is harder to judge this area, but here are a few things to look at, UCF is a Tier 1 Research university (along with Cincinnati, UCONN, USF and Houston). Memphis is not. UCF, USF and Cincinnati have roughly similar rankings in lists such as US News and World Report. UCONN is a bit stronger higher while Memphis is MUCH lower.

We also stand for academic excellence. When we use the term student-athlete, we use that very seriously and that's just not a slogan.

UCF has the highest football APR of any public FBS school in the country and is in 10th place nationally behind only premiere private schools such as Duke, Notre Dame and Stanford. All of UCF’s sports programs have some of the best APRs in the country.

Bowlsby:

I would say that we are looking for members that will grow over time as we grow, that will bring stability to the conference and that have a high top end, will benefit from an affiliation with the schools that are currently in our conference.

UCF's athletic program has been rising steadily and successfully since it first started. UCF’s student size and rapidly growing population in Central Florida give it the advantage in future growth of it’s fan base and athletic success. When we moved from Div II to Div 1-AA we were the first school to qualify for the playoffs in their first year of eligibility. In 2013 UCF was the youngest school to win a BCS level bowl game.

One of the things that was interesting to me today in the consultants' presentations and a look back at the history of expansion in other conferences and what's happened to some of those schools that have joined other conferences. There's been a high level of improvement in those schools, from the time that they joined the conferences.

When UCF moved up from the MAC to CUSA, we won division and conference championships. When UCF moved up from CUSA to AAC, we won two conference championships in the first three years. Cinci and UCONN can make a similar claim after moving up from CUSA and Independent status respectively (though not as strong...fewer conference championships and no BCS bowl win), but Memphis is nowhere to be found in this discussion.

It's actually going to be UCF, us(i)f, Cinci & Memphis. You get into the B1G, SEC & ACC markets with those 4 schools. Houston & BYU add nothing. That rumor is just ridiculous. This isn't European soccer where there's relegation if you suck, this isn't about football either; it's about money and tv sets. Cincinnati, Memphis, Orlando & tampa make the most sense money wise ALL YEAR ROUND. Provo sucks and Houston doesn't add anything to a footprint that includes 4 Texas schools already.

We need to learn how to like each other because, trust me, we're in this together.

Houston had 1 good year and their coach is gone the minute a really good position opens. And "no", South Carolina wasn't a really good position. Factor in that Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor and TCU won't be interested in competing even more for Texas recruits, especially with Texas A&M around either.

Well done. You should be on the UCF expansion delegation.

I honestly do think that USF's and UCF's fates are tied together. Either we both go, or none of us do. (paraphrasing the great Mike Ehrmantraut).

I really see no reason why you'd take both. One will take the viewers in a majority of both areas. No reason for both. Just think, watch a Big 12 game- Texas, Oklahoma etc. vs. the Florida team or the other Florida team playing Tulane, Smu etc. It fits for either school, only 1 is needed. Taking 2 Florida teams is a luxury. I guess if you take 4 then you can take a luxury but no-one cares about a rivalry and no one cares about a UCF-usf rivalry. There are too many other universities and areas worth expanding into to waste 2 spots on Florida. If it's the only way UCF gets in then I hope to God I'm wrong. But, to me, taking 2 never, ever made any sense, especially when during the last expansion 100 year old rivalries were broken with no one in control giving 2 cents.

PS. with only 4 spots available, at most, it's stupid for either university to put together a plan to work together and take up 2 spots. You might just get ignored.
