Ladies & Gentlemen, I think we have a Quarterback!!

Yes, I agree. Godfrey was was more decisive when running with the ball,
This is apples and oranges. Milton is starting because he best fits Frost's offense, whereas O'Leary (who urged his quarterbacks to run) replaced a running QB with Godfrey, a much more talented running QB. Godfrey was one of the most electrifying players we've ever seen as both a broken field runner and zipping the ball downfield. Milton is a field general leader who makes all his teammates better.

Here's a quick look back at some Freshmen Godfrey highlights. (Remember, he also had the advantage of enrolling early in Jan...and got an entire off-season and spring practice under his belt which most likely helped his fast development too).

Godfrey started the last 12 games (14 game season) and here are his 2010 stats:
Rushing: 566 yds, 10 TD's (rushed for 704 yds but 138 yds lost due to sacks)
Passing: 159-238 (66.8%) for 2,159 yds, 13 TD's, 8 INT's.

PS. Thanks to @brahmanknight for making this video.

For a while, Godfrey was in the top ten all-time in NCAA completion percentage (70%)! He had more zip on the ball than Milton, but he'll return in spring stronger. Milton impressed Jerry Paris with the velocity of one pass last Saturday.

True...as most true Freshmen (especially if they didn't get to enroll early) get stronger in their first off-season weight training, spring practice and continued unofficial workouts.

NOTE: While 2010 team's had a very good defense and 2 experienced RB's (averaged over 5 yds per carry combined), one big difference in the 2 offenses is 3rd down conversions:

2010: 51%
2016: 31%

That 2016 percentage has to improve.

The problem was Godfrey's running ability did not translate into production in his sophomore year when teams brought pressure wide to contain him.

Everyone concludes that defenses figured out how to stop him and O'Leary tried to make him more a pocket passer. I still contend that his fall off was from all the crushing hits he took as a freshman.

Incorrect. Southern Mississippi figured him out and all the teams after saw the film.

I think people forget that he came to UCF because UCF was the only team that recruited him as a QB. He was small and everyone else wanted him for defense or WR. Once the defense figured him out he was not good for the pro style offense. That and a certain talent named Bortles stepped in and Jeff's days as a QB at UCF were done.

That first year though.... man it was great. Especially the Liberty Bowl win. As a UCF fan Godfrey will always have a special place.

While his run production per game was slightly down (34 yds compared to 40 yds per game in 2010), the problem with the UCF offense in 2011 was that it stalled a lot near the red zone...as Godfrey's TD passes dropped from 13 to just 5...and his first TD pass didn't come till the 5th or 6th game.

Godfrey still ran for 9 TD's in 2011 compared to 10 in 2010.

Godfrey's passing percentage actually ticked up even more in 2011 (69% from 66.8% in 2010), but it was UCF not converting drives into 6 pts that hurt the team that season.

UCF scored TD on 56% in the red zone compared to 68% the year before...as overall scoring red zone drives (includes FG's) from 83% to 78%. (Defense was almost as good in 2011 as in 2010...but had a slight drop off).

Debating about who has more production as a freshmen is a good topic! Milton has loads of potential. The good thing is nobody is tweaking this offense so the more he learns the better he and this offense will get.

Defenses normally don't need "tweaking" of an offense to be more efficient..as the more games you have on tape...a play here or a play there that can be stopped...many times that's all it takes to go away with a win or a loss.

Hopefully Milton can stay healthy (he really isn't even healthy now) for the rest of the season to gain more experience...that's also more experience/tape for our competition to figure out how to stop him (more like slow down) come 2017 too.

Despite only one rly good season at QB, Godfrey still ranks #6 all time in passing yards and no 8 all time in passing TDS in UCF history. Also No 10 all time in overall rushing yards. And for good measure he is top 25 in receiving yards and Tds as well. He may have regressed his soph year, but there is no denying he has a place in UCF history and is in our record books as one of our better players.

Godfrey played in a much easier conference...

idk why KL keeps posting that Milton is not healthy, he looked fine to me at UCONN in cold weather where it's harder to stay loose

5 out of the 8 conf opponents he played his true freshman year are in the AAC Now
I'm willing to bet the talent level being brought in by the top 4-5 teams is a lot higher than back then.

Milton will have a 5 star defensive end chasing him at Houston on Saturday

Like MM he was a little undersized ....
.

A 'little' undersized? I think a lot. As good as the kid gets, there will always be the problem of not being able to see over the D Linemen in front of him, as well as every time he gets hit there is the chance he misses 2-3 games with some injury to an ankle or something....We've seen that already this year...right?

SMU, Houston, Tulsa, UCF, Tulane, ECU, Memphis, and UCF (makes 7); only UTEP, Rice, Marshall, and S. Miss weren't invited to AAC. Of course, that's only 7 of 12 in the AAC. Cincy, UConn, USF, are from the old Big East which was higher ranked (bottom of old P-6). Temple and Navy were added, too.

You misunderstood what I said. I understand there is 7. I a msaying that 5 of the opponents on UCF's schedule that season (Godfrey's freshman year) are in the AAC now. Overall, I understand its 7 but we didn't play all 7 of them in 2010.

bunch of heightists in here

A 5'11 QB at Houston went 12-1 last season with wins over Florida State and Oklahoma in the last calendar year.

Some people on this board seem to only project on who might be an NFL prospect, not who is good enough to win at the College level.
