Lightning

I mean...did you read anything I said? This is the momentum building year that leads into "the year" and the second half of the year has been great for attendance. Just like the Lightning didnt shoot from bottom 25% of the league pre-cup to top instantly. In was gradual over a couple of years and then tipped by the Cup win.

I'd type more. But I already did ITT.

The Cup win was 13 seasons ago. The attendance sustained has maybe SOMETHING to do with that, but it's not the majority of the reason. If this logic held, then the Marlins should be drawing well from their 2 WS titles.

Its not everything but its a HUGE SOMETHING. The key is to then parlay that trust into an ongoing attempt to keep it up, even if you dont. The Heat have done it. The Lightning have done it. But you still need to start with "IT" before getting that sustained trust.

The Marlins are - by every definition - the exact opposite of that. Honestly the Marlins shouldn't be in any discussions when it comes to this kinda stuff. And thats not too dismiss them because of the low attendance outright but really...everyone hates Loria to the point they wont give him money "just cause". Well except the politicians.

If the Dolphins (****ing clown show) won a Super Bowl, that momentum would carry for 5, 10 years+ easy. Consider how right now poor Stephen Ross has tried to spend so much damn money to be good, and has privately funded a massive stadium renovation, yet that wont translate to attendance like the lightning because the Fins havent won anything. And all that $ spend (while good intentioned) has created a clown show.

What I like is that you can buy a Lighting club ticket (which they just remodeled and it's awesome) for $60 a pop during weekday games. The amenities are awesome, it's obviously "air conditioned", beer is reasonably priced for sporting venues, the views are awesome, and hockey fans are generally good fans. Vinik has also installed amazing new party decks and the Club level has a "club-esque" outdoor lounge.

On the contrary, $60 will maybe get you a Bucs ticket up at the top of the 3rd level, to bake in the heat, in tiny chairs, with drunk and fat redneck slobs around you, and a 12 oz beer is going to cost you $10 or more. This is after you pay $20 for parking in a lot 5 miles away.
