Men's baseball beat the Canes last knight 10-5, great Victory! Can we keep it going? nm

Anyways… after a lot of deliberation, the head ump took the bat out of the stadium and eventually came back to rule that Sundean’s 3 run dinger was indeed legitimate. This kid‘s story and performance so far this season is amazing.
Final score… UCF- 15, Memphis- 6.
FIRE LOVELADY! 😉
So they paused the game and the ump took the bat to a lab to have the pine tar analyzed?

They went to read the rule. You can’t challenge the legality of a bat after the fact. The penalty for a bat being challenged is if it deemed illegal then they make you use a different bat. They don’t take runs off the board.
Why was George Bretts HR disallowed? Every time an illegal bat is used you tell umps after it’s used. It’s not illegal to own the bat. It’s illegal to use it.

How do the umpires not know the rule? This can’t be first time it’s been called. The college rule is slightly different. If bat has been altered it’s an out and no advancement of runners. If pinetar they remove bat and warn player to not do it again. The actual reason is to not mess up the balls with discoloration and sticky feeling. Doesn’t actually help you hit.

Perhaps Lovelady knew the rule book better than the umps. After a lot of arguing the head ump apparently decided to take the bat out of the stadium and finally came back to reverse their original decision. By then, LL and the Memphis pitcher had been ejected!
It was all very strange but fun to watch.

Lovelady is likely not going anywhere after Mohajir just extended him 3 years this past August. Would show that extension was a really poor decision.

Still crazy to think there is 8 programs in Florida that have gone to a super regional before UCF. FSU, UF, Miami, FAU, USF, FIU, Stetson, Jacksonville. Along with teams like UConn that Gonzaga that spent 60-70% of their seasons on the road either on the other side of the country or several states away. While UCF had to leave the state for 12 games and spend the first two months of every season almost exclusively at home.

Swept and embarrassed by ECU. It is time for a change.
That really WAS embarrassing. Totally lopsided scores in all 3 games and at home, no less!
Plus, we lost perhaps our best player SS Alex Freeland. Not sure if it’s long term but it adds insult to the fact that we lost Romano earlier in the season.

Nice sweep by the baseball team in spite of some key injuries and illnesses. UCF is playing a lot of freshmen who have been very impressive this year.
Andrew Sundean was inserted into a starting role earlier this season and has been absolutely spectacular at the plate and behind the plate (catcher). I believe he leads the league in BA (minimum of 35 plate appearances) and was maintaining 500+ for a very long time (currently at .420).
Sundean had a fantastic game on Friday and also got into some dust-ups with the Wichita State catcher a couple times. He had the last laugh both times and the dugouts had to be warned. I like the chippiness of our team and I believe they’re back in the lead for conference play.

Girls Softball (#18) should have swept Houston this weekend but let a big lead slip away on Sunday due to some uncharacteristic errors. Still a lot of fun to watch and I intend to get on campus to cheer them on for Senior Day.

Yes, he’s definitely injured. Don’t know the specifics but TV announcers have mentioned that this is a “big blow” to UCF which has had a lot of key injuries this season.
I’m not sure about the severity but he hasn’t played in the last several games. Hopefully we get him back on the field soon.
