I think you are right. It would be a eight team P5 playoff. We would hear the same old argument. Strength of schedule... bla bla bla....

Only way to get a G5 school in the mix would be to go to 16.

Herbie wants eight only because that is the only way for OSU to get a slot.

Imagine the difference if they made 2 simple changes they could make for next year:

1. Represent ALL teams in the Committee. 1 Rep for each of the 10 conferences. 1 Rep for the Independents. 2 at large reps fro outside the world of college football. All bias goes out the window. Even the mighty P5 teams will be judged mostly by unbiased people from outside the P5 conferences.

2. No rankings until the final one. That way they don't need to feel pressure to move people up or down or justify their rankings early and then have to backtrack later. Let all the games play out and THEN see how many quality wins each team had.

I think you need rankings because they drive interest in the sport but they should not start until the 3 or 4th game. It's impossible to rank someone out of the gate without considering what they did the previous season and who is returning...regardless of what they say. Unfortunately G5 teams don't get the same treatment.
