I try to stay away from facebook anymore but logged on tonight. I came across a graphic stating that medicare for all would drop the total cost of US healthcare from 3.4 trillion to 1.4 trillion. I asked the question of where the 2 trillion in savings would come from and got the typical "health insurance profits" bs. How can anybody actually believe that insurance companies can make 2 dollars for every 1 dollar that the health industry makes? Crap, Unitedhealth is the biggest insuror by far and they clear 10 billion a year.

Sorry, people are just too stupid anymore.

Almost any political graphic you see on Facebook, from either side is dumb. I hate them. People love posting them though.

You do realize he is talking about the Koch Brothers funded survey that came to that conclusion. The same thing that 85 just posted a thread whining about, except 85 wasn't smart enough to understand the implications of the study, how it would actually reduce the amount paid for healthcare.

A single-payer Medicare for All system would reduce the amount the U.S. spends on health care by more than $2 trillion, a Koch brothers-funded study released Monday found.

But yes I do agree with your title, irony and all.

No, this is a different one. The mercatur study showed it would cut costs by a few billion dollars, this one showed it would cut costs by 2 trillion per year.

Well if it is how you describe it here, yes, someone is bullshitting. But your OP just said it would save the US 2 Trillion USD, which is exactly what the Mercatus study found.

It was posted by a group called National Nurses United. The person who shared it is a nurse friend of mine. I tried pointing out that either the math has to be faulty or they are talking about everyone in the healthcare industry has to take a 60% pay cut, but she absolutely refuses to hear it.

Liberals also can’t conprehend that public government spending is not the same as private expenditure in the market. They think that replacing private spending with government spending for the same service has the exact same macro impact to the economy.

Insurors profits total are around 20-30 billion per year

All of the pharmacuetical companies combined make around 80 billion a year.

Even if we take all of their profits away, we are still only at half of what the mercator study says we will save and yet we will add 10% more people into the pool. Somebody is going to have to explain to me how this is going to be possible without either doctors and nurses taking a pay cut or we lose quality of care.

Doctors would absolutely make less. It’s happened in every single single payer system in the world.

But all that does it lead to rationing of care to the detriment of patients. See: Canada and UK

You mean like the trash that is gaining traction on FB that LGBT people are adding P into the name for pedophilia and taking in pedophiles.

Cool.

ok? Are any legit organizations pushing this, beyond random morons that populate 95% of social media?

I was referencing an actual Labor Union that is pushing bullshit on FB. A hyper politically active labor group at that.

This is the first time I've heard about the pedophile thing.

Both of you are being confusing.

Saving 6% in the total expenditures in 10 years is nothing.

Sanders said it would drop from $3.5T/year to $3.2T/year.

Congress OMB said it would grow it from $3.5T/year to $4.2T/year ... and pointed out changes in coverage too, like Medicare is not remotely as good as most private plans either.

I have no idea where they got $1.4T/year from ... unless they are talking about the current cost of all Medicare?

The $3.5T/year figure is total cost, government + private insurance + out-of-pocket.

BTW, I've given up on politics on Facebook. When people I work with and highly respect are spewing rhetoric direct from the US media that has been debunked, I cannot counter them.

Even engineers who know better when it comes to the physics of guns. And they even get more upset with me when I catch them in the double-speak and show them statistics.

At this point, I've just let zombies be zombies, and I avoid the subject.

Hmm, could it be because you are the idiot here and everyone else is right? Hilarious you mention gun physics as well, given your absolutely brain dead knowledge in that field.
