Navy Game Day thread

Heupel had 4 plays in his playbook…Gus has 5. On top of that, this team has very little talent. Recruiting needs to be a top priority.

I think defense did well. Only gave up 17 points, should win every time against any team with that.
Defense played well in the second half. But that game opening drive was an embarrassment. That 7 points never should have happened and it dictated the rest of the game.

Also, we were outcoached defensively in almost all of the short yardage situations when we unnecessarily gave up touchdowns and first downs by not even covering the center knowing that qb sneaks would be called.

Not to mention two trips into the red zone resulting only in six points!

You’re almost never going to stuff a Navy short to gain qb sneak. No matter where you have the defense lines up. Defense played well outside the first and last drive.

Can’t wait for the press conference for the lunch questions for Good Ole Boy Gus! what a good Southern Man!

I said 9-3 likely at beginning of the year. Likely how it ends up. Would have been nice to be in
Access bowl, but it likely would have been ugly. Gus had to make do year one and this year try to fill tons of holes with transfers. hopefully recruiting for his needs starts paying off next year.

I guess we have different standards. We were pushed up and down the field the entire first half. I don't call that playing well. Even when Navy didn't score their long drives cost us valuable field position for the entire first half. Field position matters.

100% m8- you allow them to drive and make a TD on the first possession of the game AT YOUR HOME BEING RANKED #20 and don't respond immediately, the whole dynamic changes.

We have plenty of excellent talent on the field and on the sidelines. We have insufficient talent utilization.

I stand corrected. Yes, there is some talent on the team but not enough to win consistently especially when Gus has NO clue how to use them as you said. His play calling is outdated, simple, predictable and easily defended

1) we need an offensive coordinator (other than the head coach) who knows how to utilize our strengths and develop quarterbacks
2) we need a defensive coordinator who dissects film and game plans ahead of time, not after they score. Also has the ability to develop players. (Has there been any improvement anywhere?). How many turnovers have we had in the last 5 games?
3) we need more size, strength and athleticism on both lines
4). Keep our kicker….he is AMAZING!!

Keene's lack of athleticism can be as frustrating as JRP's inability to read the passing game. It's just frustrating that neither one has the complete package. The Navy defense did a great job adjusting after Keene's opening drive to stop what he does well and get pressure on him immediately.
