I found something good to come out of your state! I got some beer from the Nebraska Brewing Company out of La Vista, NE and it was delicious. The beers were Nebraska Brewing Company IPA and Cardinal Pale Ale. If you havent tried them, you should.
We've got 3 or 4 really good microbrews up here. But for the record, that isn't the only good thing about nebraska.
Is Nebraska Brewing Co one of the quality craft beer brewers there? I'd be curious as to the others that you considered good. We've got 3 or 4 really good microbrews up here. But for the record, that isn't the only good thing about nebraska.
Well first off, pretty much the nicest and most cordial people you will ever meet. Secondly, and you'll laugh, but 90% of the time the weather is nice. We have the most beautiful sunsets and rainbows you'll ever find in this world. The storms are awesome and intimidating, but not really scary for the most part. More miles of rivers than any other state, the worlds largest sandhill desert which is surprisingly pretty, Omaha is a kickass metro area that rivals most big cities for entertainment, sports are a way of life, etc.Upstream & Lucky Bucket >> NBC
but I'm really interested in what you're going to invent that is good about NE

Corn and Scott Frost don't count towards the good thing count coming from Nebraska. What else?

YepWasn’t George Clooney’s character based out of Omaha in Up In the Air? The one where he fires everyone for a living?
We had snow, but it wasn't that bad. I scooped the sidewalks maybe 3 times this winter and that was just in February. I only wore a winter coat for maybe 4 or 5 weeks total. The flooding was a freak deal, all of the snow just happened to melt at the same time over 3 or 4 days. We didnt have more than a half dozen days of blistering heat last year and its going to be in the mid 70s for the next 2 weeks at least.Agree with everything except the weather. Bro 90% of the time it is straight shit and/or trying to kill you. Ya'll had like 20 feet of snow this winter, didn't get above freezing for like 2 months, and then the entire state flooded. Tornado season already started, and its about to get above 100 for the foreseeable future. You get like 2 nice weeks of weather during fall if you are lucky.
Omaha is pretty fun, got a few small sports teams and the farmers markets at Old Market and Aksarben are cool
Sounds like stuff a resident would say about their state. None of that stuff sounds like enough to attract tourists for a visit unless it's retired folks driving through in an RV.Well first off, pretty much the nicest and most cordial people you will ever meet. I looked up the breweries in Nebraska and discovered that Green Flash is also from NE. Used to drink that at WOB on occasion.Gottburg, infusion, and upstream are some of my favorites.
In all honesty, outside of Omaha there probably isnt much to attract tourists, but that doesnt mean there aren't great aspects that residents can appreciateSounds like stuff a resident would say about their state. The people sound awesome. We have so many attitude laden people moving in from New York and other Northeast states, the respect and kindness is being replaced with asshattery. It actually saddens me.

I live in the South and the only people who bitch about Nebraska being a terrible place are people who havent been there. Lincoln is a beautiful city.
Besides that, what kinda jobs do you Floridans have that allow you to be at the beach 24/7? You act as if the state has a monopoly on enjoyable climate

It seems like the impression most people have about Nebraska is almost a cariacature of it, or some weird combination of north dakota, iowa, and west Texas.
Omaha only looks kickass by comparison to the other places in that part of the country. Saying it rivals NY, LA, Chicago, San Fran, etc. is a pretty major stretch.Well first off, pretty much the nicest and most cordial people you will ever meet. What is an “average American” nowadays?Look. People basically have a choice to live anywhere in the country. Basically. The population is low, because it’s not the most desirable place to live. If you live in Nebraska and it’s your thing, then it’s the best place to live. However, for the average American, it’s not.
Did you just caricaturize north dakota, iowa and west Texas?
True, but by that metric there is no average American. Maybe California could make a case for being the best place to live based on population but that would still be less than 15%, far below average.Look. Just if you did a survey. If you love an area and you want to spend your life there, then it’s your own #1 place to live. You can’t convinced people that one location is better than anotherWhat is an “average American” nowadays?
California people like my brother LOVE CALIFORNIA! They are hooked and many don’t leave. It’s the dream for a lot of people to live there.True, but by that metric there is no average American. I’d love to go deer hunting in Nebraska. That being said, every one of my friends who has killed a deer in the Midwest says it totally messes up anything you’ll ever hunt in the south because the deer are so huge.
QUOTE="NinjaKnight, post: 1594698, member: 950"]I've never had the urge to go deer hunting in the midwest, it sounds boring as hell. Just sitting in a stand hoping a fat ass buck waders by. Probably great eating though, corn fed deer.
I stalk hogs in the GA/FL swamps, probably killed a hundred of them. It can be a pain to get them out since I don't use an ATV, usually just quarter them and take the backstrap.
I grew up hunting the swamps of FL. Had my fair share of hauling a deer out through some of the worst shit you could imagine. It is fun but to hell with the mosquitos and cotton mouths--I've shot far too many of those for my liking.
Yeah, almost stepped on a few too many of them too. I usually wimp out and use mosquito repellent because otherwise I'd die from blood loss out there, just gotta walk into the wind.
Thermacells are the sh!t. My lease is up in Steinhatchee and I've discovered that Thermacells work way better on mosquitoes and other flying insects than on no-see-ums.[/QUOTE]Thermacells are money for mosquitoes and other flying insects. I wish I had had it growing up.

LOL. Let me fix my sentence. My lease is in Steinhatchee. I shouldn't have included the word "up" in the original sentence. What are you going to do for Hunting now? I am still looking.
one day when im retired im going to get an rv and drive across the country.
Me too.Beaches are for the tourists but I am in my pool year round.
I'm a native Nebraskan who has lived on the East Coast and spent considerable time on the West Coast and Florida. I would never consider Nebraska a tourist destination, unless you're a hunter during hunting season. But from my perspective, it's a damn nice place to live, particularly here in Lincoln, Nebraska.
You couldn't ask for a classier, nicer, and cleaner mid-sized city than Lincoln. The Old Haymarket area in downtown has been expanded in the last decade to include new restaurants, coffee houses, hotels, convenient parking garages, an outdoor pavilion area and a state-of-the-art arena for Husker basketball, concerts, and other special events.
Traffic isn't bad during the school year and becomes nearly non-existent during the summer. All of the city's movie theatres are state-of-the-art with recliner seats. And it would be hard to find an ethnic restaurant the city doesn't have.
As Crazyhole mentioned, the weather is better than most people assume. Admittedly, this was a tough winter but this one has been an exception to the norm. My wife and I tend to avoid the January cold altogether by becoming Floridians for a while.
Me too.![]()
