I'm still thinking that I would love to have the Bowling Green Coach as our next Coach. He runs a wide open and exciting offense like teams in the Big 12 do. It sure would be fun with all the speed in Florida to run that type of offense. A lot of fast kids in Florida would love to play in an offense like that. What do you guys think?

I don't think QBs are faring all that well in these wide open offenses in the Big 12. The scheme is exciting but on the flip side they also play no defense. For example:
TCU - boykin injured
Baylor - Russell and stidham? out
Oklahoma - Mayhan? injured
Ok State - QB was beat up and hobbling around...barely was able to finish.

The coaches in that league are going to have to learn how to protect their QBs better because they are getting injured at an alarming rate. They are way too exposed. Thier OLs obviously don't protect the QB, whether because of talent and/or because of scheme. My opinion...I find it boring football to watch because almost no defense is played. More often than not, when they have to win the big game they lose because they play teams that have stout defenses and they run it down thier throats. I think our plays/scemes under Taafe were plenty exciting. I think our scheme more fit under other successful teams such as FSU, Ohio State, Mich State or Bama. Those teams get sick recruits but haven't moved to similar offenses because they actually play defense. I especially loved it when we controlled clock, ran it down people's throats and played defense. There are certainly elements of the Big 12 offenses to employ in any repetoire. We proved, at our level, that our schemes more often than not won out against spread teams when we had the talent (both players and coaches). That said, i'll give our new coach 2-3 seasons to employ whatever they feel is required to win.

Babers would take longer to repair local recruiting

I prefer Collins or Cristobal w an OC that runs some spread(pro set principles can still be used) with the athletes UCF should be able to recruit. There aren't many OCs out there running the GOL/Key dinosaur offense, any OC would be an immediate upgrade over Brent Key.

Yes but what if we had a wide open offense and a great defense to go with it?
Those offenses score to quickly and the defense gets worn out. Part of what matt is talking about is ball control. Slow contained drive using the run game as short passes keeps the ball out of the other teams hands and allows the defense to rest.

This probably doesn't matter, but we'd never get another QB drafted if when we do that. Just listening to all the analysis about 1 of those type of QBs during draft time and all you hear is how they aren't real QBs. All they do is look to the sidelines, see a picture of a chicken or pie or whatever, and run the play. They can't/don't read defenses. And being G5 we wouldn't get the best of the bunch come Feb. But, I guess that doesn't really matter if we win.

As you said, it really doesn't matter as college coaches are trying to win college games....and if their player(s) end up in the NFL, that's just a bonus...but you don't set up your offense just to help one player's future pro prospects....best offense is one that can help win college games...whatever style that is.

It was reported that the new AD wanted to add some coaches to the mix. Since this thread is called new coach and i dont want to start a new thread about virtually the same thing. Besides Lance Leipold, any other coaches you can predict that White is thinking of? Someone with Florida recruiting ties of course, but a candidate we havent thought about.

I tried turn this thread into who was on Danny White's list that no one brought up but no one cared to respond.
