You realize the mask illusion gives people false sense it actually does anything. Meaning they get closer to others and not wash hands as much.

The freedom thing at least if it worked I would be onboard
A barber shop had a sick woman, who didnt know she had covid, cut the hair of 140 people, she wore a mask the whole time, they wore masks the whole time. Not one person tested positive.

Doctors and nurses who treat covid wear masks and they dont always catch covid. They are tested all the time to make sure. These are people who are right around infected people daily.

IDK, I will social distance a MF'er with a dropkick if they get near me without a mask, so it's working.

But masks do work. You're a smart person, I don't know why you're insisting otherwise.

Just for people that are sick to not spread further out with coughs. They have to be n95s to filter micron level viruses. Those are facts.

Hmmmmmm, so you are saying level 1 masks that doctors, dentists, nurses and other healthcare workers have been using for decades don't work? Do you have any YouTube research which supports this?

Masks are nothing more than a social experiment to see how little of an inconvenience it will take to get us to flock towards a vaccine.

No guarantee the mask would of changed that outcome. Sad though he was a really good guy. Likeable even in politics. People were contracting covid in new York with all the mask rules. Same in Miami.
God forbid you admit that masks and social distancing help save lives.

Do you really believe this?
I think there is a psychological experiment of sorts here, yes. This kind of thing is pervasive in politics and is a part of human nature in general.

Just think back to the 1950s and 60s with "duck and cover". Yeah, if you see a nuclear bomb go off near you hide under your desk because it will save your life. Masks are an extension of that kind of manipulation of our fears, and faith in government to keep us safe. The difference between the 2 is that back then the villain was an outside force while today the villain is your neighbor.

Covid-19 now killing more people daily in florida than cancer and heart disease combined.

While more Floridians than ever are wearing mask.. and social distancing is being pushed harder than ever. We got a temporary handle on the virus when people were not wearing them anywhere close to the #s that now wear them.

That’s because only lockdowns really work. Everything else is a bandaid

Look, I can entertain a whole lot of ideas and am open to a lot when it comes to govt manipulation, the politicizing of this and even outright lies. But the idea that masks do NOT help prevent spread is just beyond insane. I don't care if it's a 20% impact, it still counts. I understand all reason has been lost but we have to stop conflating these things.

this x100. Stop being stupid, knighttime.

You can hear Shook Chicken popping that bottle of champagne
Yeah sure bud. I'd rather be right than have thousands of people not die. Unlike you i would rather this thing go away even if it helps the other side politically, but we arent doing shit to make that happen. Florida went from having this under control to losing control as soon as your maga trash governor started giving in to Trump's pressure.

Sensemaking abilities are critical b/c when we stop trusting information we fall back to our defaults. And for most those defaults aren't exactly higher level orders of thinking. Specifically... we're devolving in to insane tribalism.

Dawg I know it’s hard to not be a moron when you live in a remote corn field but you may want to worry about your own state more than your constant bitching about Florida or DeSantis, considering Indiana has far more deaths per 100K people than Florida does.

Yeah we got it bad around the time NY did. We were caught off guard like the rest of the country with no national response. We got it under control and our 7 day average for deaths is now 10.

Florida with 3X the population has 15X the 7 day death average. What is Desantis' excuse for having it under control early and then being like, "**** it, we'll just open everytjing with no mask mandate and become a global hotspot?"

If you think you wont pass indiana for deaths per million youre fooling yourself.

Masks help, but the point is that it’s not ENDING this crap and getting things back to normal. It will not because compliance is far from 100% in usage and proper usage

So basically DeSantis did a fantastic job on the front end while Indiana and morons like Cuomo totally failed and as a result it clearly saved thousands of lives in Florida.

Deaths per 100K would have to jump 41% in FL to reach Indiana numbers and that would be assuming Indiana numbers don’t increase a bit.

Maybe keep this in mind the next time you feel the need to whine hysterically about Florida or gleefully post something about Floridians dying

Masks help

Agreed, it's common sense.

but the point is that it’s not ENDING this crap

No reasonably intelligent person shouldve ever thought masks would eradicate the virus. The correct response from those pushing back is not to say masks don't work.

These comments are directed at those people who are not taking a nuanced approach to this but instead legitimately think masks don't work. There are plenty of these people.

Masks do seem to work. Those two hairdressers who had COVID saw 170 customers, up close and personal, and no one caught it from them with a 100% mask usage policy.

Publix has had a mask policy for workers since early April and they’ve had very few workers get sick despite having customers in every day. On top of the other mitigation policies they put in place.

Masks help. The problem is compliance. It’s use is not widespread enough and the “horse is already out of the stable.”

Publix and that salon are under control, but the problem is that is only a minuscule fraction of the population

Our Publix had some wearing and others not until the last 2 weeks or so. and some who wore them were covering mouth and not nose, and that is still the case with a couple of workers. The best thing Publix did was get the plexiglass shields up, pretty early on.

"Help" being the operative word

And “help” hasn’t really been good enough IMO. If we can’t have 18-22 year olds play college football with limited fans then we aren’t doing crap that’s helping. We will see

Something tells me that college football players can handle this virus just fine.

This is a great post to review.

Points this post made:
1. Desantis did a fantastic job because Floridas deaths per 100k were less.

2. Indiana totally failed because of their deaths per 100k.

3. Deaths per 100k would need to jump over 40% to be as bad as Indiana.

Well, tomorrow or Friday, Florida will pass Indiana in deaths per million and they havent even started declining yet. So are we now comfortable with the following changes based off of your own logic?

1. Desantis totally failed because deaths per 100k are more than Indiana

2. Indiana did a fantastic job because their deaths per 100k are lower than Florida

3. Something you thought was inconceivable took only 3 weeks to happen. Florida passed Indiana while we have kept our numbers somewhat low with a govornor who was among the first republicans to mandate masks statewide.

Thank you for outlining how Republican Governors have done incredibly well with preventing COVID deaths while pointing out that Democratic Governors have been failures. Your points are well taken and I'm sure you'll remind your friends of this.

8/10 of the worst hit states are D Governor. Timely post, thanks man.

"Indiana and morons like Cuomo totally failed"

Now that Florida is worse off than Indiana are you ready to also say that Florida totally failed? At least Indiana was caught off guard. What is floridas excuse for having a peak in ****ing August of 2020?

See, this is dumb. We've been over this. Saying "let COVID ravish and kill tons and tons of people early on and then claim victory when there's less vulnerable people to kill later" is not a valid argument. Florida's positive rate has already been cut in half and despite our peak we are still not to Indiana's deaths per million and will never be remotely close to NY.

Deaths Per Million:

New York: 170
Florida: 45

The first line has a Governor who is literally writing a book about how awesome his COVID response was and just used the DNC to proclaim NY's response as being "beautiful". He also routinely has his ass kissed by the media and liberals.

The 2nd line has a Governor who has led a better response in every possible way yet is routinely crapped on by the media and failed Governor of line 1 since he's an R and didn't race to lock down.

Your 7 day death average hasnt even started the decline yet and Indiana has been seeing 1 or 2 deaths per million per day. Florida will end up 100 or more deaths per million higher than Indiana. We were also hit when PPE wasnt even available. My wife and sister sewed masks for local hospital staff and family and friends. Doctors had no idea how to treat it when we were spiking. We got hit when we were just weeks into this. Florida has no excuse for playing catch up to even sniff Indiana's deaths per million other than pathetic leadership.
