Recycling plastic is completely worthless. LMAO that you believe you are helping the planet at all.
If it keeps the plastic out of the oceans, then it’s worth that at least. Recycling plastic should get far more valuable if we cut off oil drilling. You can only make so many plant-based polymers when you have to compete for farmland with food stocks, solar farms, and biofuel fields.
I won't argue any of this. But we are fighting a losing battle here and have been for almost 30 years.

Recycling plastic, depending on the number, can be effective. It's not as effective as aluminum, but is effective.
In fact, the move to 'type 7' by 'environmentalists' like yourself has actually made things much, much worse. Unless, of course, you stop consuming.

Where did he go wrong? If you want to save electricity, turn off the AC. Shut off the phone and read a book. Walk to school or ride a bike instead of getting a ride in a car. I don't understand how any of that could set you off like this.

I had this argument with progressive morons in Red Hat when Earth Hour came up a good decade ago, and they were pushing the entire, global corporation to join in the chronic, global, self-defeating stupidity in ignorance. I merely asked, "Why can't you just not turn the lights back on after? Why can't you just keep reducing?"

Trying to educate them on how it hurt the grid with transients and actually used more power was impossible. One even shared an article that -- if you didn't understand the power grid -- you would have read it as, "Oh, the power grid can handle it." But anyone with a modicum of understanding, let alone an EE or let alone a certified power or even just an HVAC technician, easily pointed out the article only proved my point ...
It hurts the grid, and uses more power in the end, just to switch off for a hour. In fact, one plant manager in the article asked people to do exactly what I did, just don't bother turning the lights back on after. Just leave them off.
People will user 'awareness' to the point it becomes a 'cult of ignorance,' a 'Church of Popular Environmentalism.' We've seen the same out of Breast Cancer awareness, and so many other things too. It doesn't require religion to have 'blind faith' in a cause of self-defeating results.
Type 7 is an outstanding example, plastics can very much be recycled ... if actually petroleum-based! Otherwise, paper is much, much better, and the world's most naturally recycled resource, let alone idea for landfills and the methane cycle, which can be captured, which is a whole economy we've left 'untapped' too.
But nope, 'magic pixel dust' of 'zero emissions/impact.' (face palm)
At least more and more researchers, statisticians and physicists have come out against Earth Hour over the past year, not just us Engineers. Just like with Type 7 v. Paper ... or even continuing using other plastics.
