The NFL began wearing padded helmets (i.e. Guardian helmets) for practices starting a few years ago. They are designed to significantly reduce concussions during practice. I thought most college football programs were wearing them now too but watching this Spring's Knights' practice reports, I noticed UCF doesn't.

I did an informal survey and found most Big XII teams do wear them. I only found 2 schools (UCF and KU) who don't.

I'm curious. Anybody know why UCF hasn't pulled the trigger yet on padded helmets for practice?

Great question. Seems almost reckless not to wear them doesn't it?

In NFL I’ve seen teams use them but it’s only a few guys per team. Typically the guys that have concussion problems.
