Yes it is important! It represents one more escalation in the athletic department arms race spending spree nationally (including coaching and AD bidding wars). As more and more schools (even numerous P5 schools) get priced out, we are likely to see lots of newbie FBS schools like FIU and FAU dropping football altogether as a financial black hole and school embarrassment.
