Led by the NY attorney general, four states are suing the federal government over the tax reform bill. Specifically, that the bill that applies a federal tax policy equally across all states somehow violates state sovereignty. This is going to be an enormous waste of taxpayer money for no purpose other than signaling on the part of the attorneys general and has almost zero chance of succeeding as the Court has ruled consistently in favor of Congress’s right to set and manage federal tax policy.

The most ironic part is that the only people who will benefit from a repeal of the removal of the exemption on state tax paid above $10k is the rich. In other words, the party of the little guy is yet again using the little guy’s money to benefit the rich while claiming fairness.

Because the people who have complained about this are bad at math. No joke, after I explain this to everyone who complains, they say I'm lying.

No, they're just bad at math. No one was an engineering or finance major, just to put that out there as well.

Wasn't there a quirk in the law that penalized these states more due to not being able to write off something off?

No, the states with high income taxes are pissed because their richest residents cannot deduct those state taxes on their federal forms anymore. They still took their share of federal money, though, so it wasn’t like the federal government benefited from that deduction by the states taking less from the federal coffers.

The penalty was allowing these high tax blue states to refund their rich citizens on the backs of taxpayers elsewhere, so these blue state governors could continue gouging tax payers with state and local taxes but not get held responsible

What these states are admitting is that their tax laws make living there unaffordable. Unless they sucker the federal government into subsidizing their asinine high taxes

The free riding is over.

These same states are suing Betsy DeVos over 100 different issues. They have nothing better to do and they are all trying to do this for publicity. Attorney Generals like to get as much publicity as they can so they can run for Governor.
