Closing out the year with a new OC would be nice.

A lot of good possibilities in this list. Personally, I like hiring within the staff because I'm tired of guys bouncing around in the OC and DC
positions so have a sense that there might be more loyalty to Gus if we did this which we have done for DC.

I know it's a long shot but would love for Gus to take a chance on KZ for QB coach and keep him in town since we lost the opportunity
to keep Kevin Smith in town in the past with an RB coach offer.

KZ said he’s too busy trying to get his Brand going to coach right now. Plus he never really threw mechanically correct. You need a coach for mechanics. Not just because he was a QB for us before.

I'd rather see an outside hire....since I want previous experience at the position, and no one on the current staff stands out. As far as QB coach, what coaching qualifications does Milton have? None. Who has he developed? Nobody.

He will have his day, but has a long way to go.....

He actually coaches small groups right now. Ages ranging from middle school up through college. I have seen his coaching first hand and can tell you the guy knows his stuff and is a very patient teacher. Great attention to detail and enjoys working with the players and helping them get better.

As a coach, I can appreciate his approach and can tell he will be very successful at it should he chose to continue expanding that craft.

Cam Newton has a better shot at coaching under Gus. If he ever wanted to. He would help in recruiting a top QB as well.

Chad Morris is an interesting name.

As I mentioned in another thread Dell McGee is a very interesting name that I think would be a good fit. He was an analyst on Gus' first Auburn staff.

Dameyune Craig actually makes a lot of sense. A couple stops at FSU and has a history as Co-Oc for 3 years under Gus.

Craig/McGee would be the home run hires, a promotion seems lazy

Hell No! Just shut the program down. Morris is the reason Gus was fired at Auburn.

Good recruiter. Who wouldn't be at Georgia? I doubt he would take the job. BTW, Dell McGee is the highest paid RB coach on the nation at $800,000 per year. He isn't coming to UCF for a $350,000 pay cut.

He would be better than Chad Morris, but he is without question the last person Gus would hire. They cannot stand each other.

The best name I have heard is Jake Spavital. He can develop quarterbacks and is capable of calling plays if Gus is sidelined again. He just signed a contract with California so it will be a hard sell

Gus could take a chance on first-year North Alabama QB coach Jake Bentley if Gus passes on father Bobby. The younger Bentley has an eye for talent.

An out-of-the-box hire could see Gus tapping former uat head coaching candidate Rich Rodriguez. Jacksonville State is transitioning to the FBS and Rich Rod may want a change of scenery. He worked wonders with Jon Rhys Plumlee as OC at Ole Miss.

I don't think Gus will promote from within on this hire and I think it will surprise people.

I think Rich Rod would be a home run hire. Great offenses at WVU.

A hell **** no to Bobby Bentley…let’s not take to many coaches from the worst usf team in history.

Other guys to consider....

Mark Whipple, Mike Stanford, Bush Hamdan, Cale Gundy, Rich Scangarello, and Darrell Dickey.

I like Mark Whipple but he isn’t even close to Gus’ scheme. Weird he left Pitt and went to Nebraska with Scott Frost knowing he is on the hot seat. Is he out of a job right now?

It’s not Bentley. Bobby wasn’t even interviewed. This retarded is just going off Leonard’s list and Leonard knows jackshit.

Frost interviewed
Marion interviewed
Someone with UCF ties interviewed
Stephen Leonard said Marion was the leader. Shows what you know.

A.J. Milwee would be a better choice than Marion. He is actually a quarterbacks coach, and UCF can afford him. He makes only $375.000 with his latest salary bump.

Chip Lindsay made $450.000 and had the title of offensive coordinator.

"The best name I have heard is Jake Spavital. He can develop quarterbacks and is capable of calling plays if Gus is sidelined again. If he was good, he wouldn't be at Cal (he might be there for a paycheck but if he was that good, he would have had other options). All Cal does is collect L's and paychecks. I just read an article pretty much laughing at them for having one of the worst FBS recruiting classes ever. They have like 1 kid rated in the top 1,000. He went 13-35 in 4 years as head coach at Texas State...not exactly setting the world on fire when your best season is 4 wins.

At West Virginia he was handed Geno Smith with a redshirt and full season under his belt, and Geno had already had a very good first season, so he didn't develop him....he just made sure he didn't go off the rails. Nothing wrong with that. In 2013 he went to Texas A&M. At Texas A&M he inherited Johnny Manziel who had already had a very good first starting season, and after his first season Johnny left. In 2014 he finally got to develop his first QB from scratch....Kenny Hill or Kyle Allen....Kyle Allen played two seasons, got beat out of his job and transferred to Houston. Kenny Hill transferred after the 2014 season because Allen had beat him out of the job. A&M went 8-5 and 8-5 with his new QBs....not exactly stellar. In 2016 he was at Cal...nothing to develop there. In 2017-2018 he went Back to West Virginia: He did take Will Grier and make him into a good QB. I'll give him that, and Grier got his first full season under his tutelage. From 2019-2022 he was Texas State, and I looked through Box Scores, who was playing, and what their careers were like, and one guy ended up being mediocre. Seasoned coach. A little fuzzy on whether he can develop QB talent. No idea if what he has recruited talent, either. That said, you could do much, much, much worse than this guy.

I enjoy reading your takes and posts. I haven't read any disrespectful type posts about UCF from you and I can tell you follow Gus, seem to want UCF (Gus) to win, are knowledgeable about UCF and our players. Appreciate the respectful posts and information despite some unwelcoming attacks.

Interesting information and background you bring about Gus at Auburn and possible UCF coaching/player options to talk about on a message board. Go Knights and War Eagles....as long as they're not playing UCF.

How about the Navy coach who was just fired? They do a lot of running like some complain that Gus likes :)

Just having fun here...who knows but the person will be doing Gus' biding which narrows the list and current qualifications of the OC. It's like interviewing for a janitor position with a Master's degree. You typically won't get hired because they know you won't last long.

How about Chris Weinke?

He is a relatively young former national championship- and Heisman trophy-winning NFL QB, has big-time SEC and NFL QB coaching experience, is ready to take on an OC role--and best of all, UCF can afford him.

The next UCF OC could likely still be coaching.

Wiily Korn (Coastal Carolina) and Bryan Ellis (Georgia Southern) just completed their seasons. Jim Svoboda (Tulane) finishes up Jan. 1.

UCF can outbid the suitors for any of these three.

Ellis is a former USC QB coach, who helped Western Kentucky put up video game numbers in 2021. Grayson McCall will likely follow Korn wherever he lands. No Group of Five OC had a greater impact than Svoboda.

Always feels most important in the moment but is it pretty safe to say this is among the most important coordinator hire decisions in program history?

Unless the OC has responsibilities, it won't matter. The offense runs how Malzahn wants it.

His QB development in the SEC was pretty much zero. No QBs recruited of any value, either. He was at Tennessee for two years as QB coach. Of the two guys that played, one played two seasons then got beat out of his job. The other ended up as a backup at Stephen F Austin. Just saying that is his track record. Maybe he was handed little to work with. He took a gig as Ga Tech's QB Coach so he's unavailable.

Yes and No. Finding a competent QB that you don't have to hope "has a great day" just to be successful is more important. At the same time, being able to get the most out of what you're given is also paramount. Now, this may be because of who is hired, or may not be. I like the pressure and scrutiny, though. As you move up in competition, these hires should be scrutinized at a higher level, because the stakes should be higher.

My prime example is Taffe. If we hadn't hired that guy who knows if GOL would have lasted as long as he did. Who knows where our program would be at, at all. Guys gave us 5 out of 6 seasons of success from 2009-2014. He didn't go find QB talent (wasn't much of a recruiter but I could be wrong). Guy took anything given to him and made wine out of water (Hodges, Godfrey, Bortles, and Holman).

We hired a coach that calls the plays. In fact, if people hadn't noticed, our last 3 coaches (including Gus) all called the plays, so the argument about needing an OC is just grasping at straws because what you see on the field isn't where you think it should be. Our biggest issue is talent and depth at the QB position.

So, does anyone really know anything accurate about this position hire or are you all just making suggestions that no one is really listening to? Isn't it strange that this is taking so long? Does anyone think it might be someone from one of the playoff schools and Gus is waiting till all of the playoffs are over to make the announcement? Just wondering why it is taking so long to announce the hire.

I doubt they are doing interviews until their season is over. Earliest would be today and if on UGA the earliest would probably be next Wednesday.
