After the Fiesta Bowl win, the last 2 years should've been a recruiting bonanza for UCF. He is just a miserable recruiter. There are more than enough good players here in Florida, yet O'Leary doesn't bother to recruit here nearly as much as he should. There is no excuse for this ineptitude! UCF sorely needs a new coach who is a strong recruiter.

Ummm, the recruiting year after the Fiesta Bowl was one of our strongest ever.... followed by the formation of the P5 and the demise of the G5.

Says every team in America not currently winning. We will have to get in line.

Don't you have to get to a BCS Bowl and win the BCS bowl before you can recruit from a BCS bowl victory? I think you forgot that part

One of our best ever is not saying much. Needs to be at a higher level.
Let me repeat some old stats for you newbs... UCF is in the top 10 if not top 5 of G5 schools for recruiting year after year and beat out numerous P5 schools. I think your expectations are a little out of whack.

Wasn't UCF also dealing with restrictions on class size and overall scholarship limits those years?

College recruiting is a lot like musical chairs. A program like UCF can only wait so long to win over a 4-star player, before they have to verbally guarantee a scholarship to someone lower on their list. Or else you end up scrambling on signing day.

They are only in the top 5 in the conference....sometimes.

2016: 11th
2015: 3rd
2014: 4th
2013: 6th

Dude, quit showing 2016 to support your arguments. Talk about grasping at straws. And yes, the other 3 years you have quoted, UCF is top 10 or top 5 G5 as well. But I suppose that doesn't support your argument which is why you left it off?

Lets clarify for the "newbs". The years before the Fiesta Bowl win. 2010 - 56th - 2.73 avg.
2011 - 39th -2.86 avg. 2012-91st -2.76 avg. 2013- 74th - 2.61 avg.

After the Fiesta Bowl win. 2014 - 74th 2.65 avg. 2015 - 63th 2.82 avg.

That doesnt necessarily look like a recruiting bonanza to me. It looks just about the same or even worse.

Way to take these huggers to school.

To be fair, i even added the avg player star rating because the huggers will be sticking their nose up in the air retorting well we dealt with sanctions. We didn't have enough players. We couldnt even improve the star caliber of players with the little amount of recruits we can sign.

You realize you can't compare across years like this when Rivals changed its rating system... "So starting with the class of 2013 (which IS the Fiesta Bowl year), we made some changes..." https://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1364602

So tell me why would a top recruit change his mind from P5 to G5 because of a major bowl victory? The last BCS bowl tie in ever? Given the current landscape how was that supposed to turn into a recruiting bonanza? The bonanza is probably the ability to stay even in recruiting when relegated to second class citizenship. You have to admit that the death of the BCS and loss of the Big East tie in was a huge loss for us.

I think we still have some very good talent. It is not being allocated well right now and it is very young. But this pipe dream of some great recruiter coming to UCF is fantasy land

I know, good thing Boise State has had that BCS tie in all this time, otherwise they would've never been able to field teams that went to multiple BCS games and beat several P5 opponents.

Your argument = trash.

I'm interested to see if D'erren Wilson can build off his impressive performance in garbage time against Tulane. He looked more dangerous than anyone on the field for us since Akins went down. I don't want to see Nick Patti take another snap at WR. Play the young scholarship kids, empty the bench, let's see what we've got since their redshirts are already burned. Tre'quan Smith, Wilson, Cam Stewart, and Payton should be seeing a ton of time from here on out.

FCS talent just whooped our ass three weeks ago.
An FCS opponent full of experienced players with 2 to 3 years experience over the high school-experienced freshman we've been playing watched us beat ourselves with turnovers from our new players.

Um, no, I genuinely saw us suck...for several games, not just one. I'm pretty sure that's factual. This team is young like many others...ok...so why are many others doing better?

COACHING!!!

Who's fault is it that we have a bunch of freshmen in the team? O'Leary because recruiting has gone to shit. He's the boss. He's in charge. Everything that goes wrong with this program is his fault.

I bet you FAU can whoop Furman's ass.

Exactly...so was the recruiting director hired by O'Leary? Yep.

Did they fail to get some JUCOs to cover positions in need? Yep

Therefore...COACHING!!!!

AHA AHA HA AHAHA!! It's not a logical leap folks. The simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

Yep, GOL's fault for seniors smoking pot, getting injured, leaving early for the NFL, losing recruiters to bullsh!t investigations, losing great coaches he's hired to other teams. He must really suck.

*fails to understand preparing for departing upper classmen, coaches, and plays favorites like Key and on the field like Calabrese...unlike EVERY OTHER FUGGIN TEAM.

How do you go from number 10 to 127?

BAD COACHING and BAD RECRUITING.

Oh, that's right. It is so easy to go out and find an up and coming coach to fill in. Look how well that is going for Texas, USF, etc, etc.

Five games in and the team offensive line is getting worse, more sacks and negative rushing. Defense giving up more points, committing more penalties. So far experience has only been making this team look worse.

Ranked number 127.

WORSE COACHING IN NATION! It'll be easy to find another coach that's better. I would love to have Taggart or Beaker here right now. I'll roll out the carpet for them.

Another very simple logical deduction. (this is getting funny, keep it going).

Oh wow. You're good. Beaker who took USF from a top 5 to bottom 10 in two weeks. And Tagfart who has yet to smell a bowl even though he has been recruiting better than GOL according to your loved Rivals system. You sir are BRILLIANT! You might want to double check your logic.

Here's why your argument is a steaming pile of shit: Boise State

Boise State is in the middle of fukcing nowhere, full of fat chicks, no beaches and no football talent, A.K.A. Idaho. They haven't had a losing season since 1997. Since 1998, they have a combined record of 187-37 (83% win avg) and have gone 11-5 (69%) in Bowl games, 3 of those wins being at the Fiesta Bowl vs Top 15 FBS opponents (Oklahoma, TCU, Arizona). They have done that with 4 coaches (Dirk Coetter, Dan Hawkins, Chris Petersen & Bryan Harsin).

How do you recruit that quality and quantity of player talent and coaches over a span of almost 20 years to go to west bumblefukc?

scknight is 1 of maybe 3-4 posters left that will defend O'leary no matter how bad it gets.

Just give him more time! He needs 20 years!

Look i'm only posting proof what the OP has complained about.

To your comment about the fall of the BCS and the Big East. The one thing that drives me nuts about this program and why i think we need to give a new coach a shot, is that the current regime seems to only be satisfied with meeting (and not exceeding) certain requirements - that would improve our perception. Its that mentality that couldn't get us into the Big East until it was too late. We boast about being conference champions but during many of those years we couldnt prove our worth to AQ now P5 conferences because we lost more than we won on the field. At least when Utah got the move from the Mountain West, what do fans think - victory in the Fiesta Bowl and the Orange Bowl over Alabama. Its a slam dunk. As for UCF except for 2013 the perception of us is wishy washy and thats whats happending right now. The conferences treat us like an emergency back up and to be honest its probably how we got our invite to the Big East in the first place.

Before i went to UCF, i grew up an FSU fan and that was before they joined the ACC. Back in the days they played on the road against Nebraska, Ohio State, Nortre Dame etc. I cant imagine FSU having that big of a budget back then until they became a good football team. Im gonna imagine winning generates revenue right? And winning means other conferences want to generate revenue with you. Same with Miami a school that almost dumped football in the 1970s. So it makes me laugh when we brag about our conference titles because my childhood team FSU as ACC champions had OOC wins over Nebraska, Kansas, Florida, Notre Dame, Southern MIss, Southern Cal, Texas A@M, etc. They not only defended the honor of the conference, they improved the perception of the program as well. How does CUSA champs UCF perfrom OOC? Losses to Kansas State, NC State, Florida, Penn State. 7-21 overall. Thats our problem. If we only did better in those games then the proof that we are too good for own conference would be defeaning...and the Big East would have no choice but to take action.

Better than number 10 to toilet in 2 years....which will take another 2 years, or more, to fix (referencing historical patterns in this program). Keep em coming!! I would LOVE to have Taggart's recruiting class right now...better than what we have...like 4? Was like 8...but you know...

COACHING!
