YOU THINK O'Leary? As coach recruiting it's ultimately YOUR responsibility. O'Leary is a miserable recruiter. There are a ton of players here, and he doesn't recruit Florida as well as he should.I'm stunned how many people seem to believe that our recruiting is not that bad. WOW! We should be able to get at least some 4 star players every year,and an occasional 5 star.It's inexcusable that our recruiting is not better. As an alumnus, I'm disgusted.

Actually it isn't that easy to get 4 and 5 star players, but we need to land more mid-upper level players that go to the ACC. It would also help if we made our stadium a bit more impressive, but instead we pay the extra money on overpaying coaches.

Tell that to Houston.

It should be easier for us compared to our competition.

Did he follow that up with "if we could just score more points than our opponents we'd win more games"?

I won't disagree but the injuries and youth we've had to endure this year are pretty tough. I still think we should be able to do better than 0-6.

I've been a GOL fan, but I think at this point it's time for someone else to take over. I don't think GOL should be starting a rebuild before walking out the door.

I have been a GOL supporter, and don't blame him for everything this season. Sanctions, 2 players leaving early last year, and the unbelievable # of injuries have been killer. Just 2 plays going different, the missed and made 54 yd field goal would make us 2 and 4 now.

That being said, A rebuild is needed, and I doubt Key is the man for the job. I don't know that GOL has it in him at age 70. Recruiting is a must, and coaches do use age against other coaches, when going head to head. Hitt absolutely needs a new AD, not so much of the nuts and bolts of the job as the PR work. And I wouldn't blame the new AD for changing the direction of the program. I just pray the right picks be made, or we may be down for a long time.

there is a handful of us posters that have been complaining about this every February around signing day before everything has come crashing down. Why have a program in the middle of Florida and not use that advantage? Instead He has recruited like UCF's campus is in upstate New York

Oh......We'll have the GOL crowd say he's doing just fine in recruiting the state.
I have said this on several occasions on this forum. UCF needs to bring back a men's track program. Oleary has even said on many occasions that we have missed out on some big time sprinters who wanted to play football and run track. When we are trying to make a play to join a P5 conference your FB program needs every advantage it can get to get faster athletes. Fast athletes don't guarantee wins but it does increase your odds of winning games and helps when a big play might be needed in crucial situations.

It's an absolute shame for this university to sit in the middle of the state of FL without a men's track program. With the growth of Orlando we are missing out on so much track talent here alone.

There needs to be some change in our strategy in terms of which sports we have. Some may not want to hear this but what does men's tennis do for football or the overall athletics program. Nothing in my opinion. Even if it means removing tennis and adding another women's sport then so be it due to title 9. At least that could pave the the way for men's track to come back much sooner.

People can except when you say I've made mistakes. But when your arrogant, defensive and making excuses like Oleary fans can take it. We are not only young but there's a clear lack of older talent in the program as well.
UCF should have a full time assistant in Miami recruiting that place year round. Go get another Coach Kelly because we need. Oleary should just come out and say that everything is on the table to turn this thing around from coaches, the way we recruit, sports that help elevate the FB program like track. And even if he needs to adjust his style. Just say I'm going to fix it but don't makes excuses. I can live with that and let him turn it around but I can't live with someone being stubborn and want change to better the program. That's when you know it's time for the coach to go.

If only he got someone like, say, Latavius Murray from New York...

I don't care where he recruits from as long as talent comes in. Plummer and Bruce were out of state guys. I say you get talent where you can. That talent has been coming as fast in the last few years for whatever reason. Although there is some young talent on this team.

Stanback. Calabrese was pretty effective in the Wild Knight.

on a Macro level just compare the # of D1 quality High School Players in Orlando/I4 coordidor area alone compared to the entire State of New York. He should have focused his time improving relationships locally instead of wasting money heading North for players

Maybe. Throughout GOL's tenure he has pulled a lot of talent from different areas. I don't see why he is being bashed for the talent of his players based on one season.

You obviously do not look at the recruiting results each year because no G5 schools get 5-star players and there may be typically 5-10 4-star guys that go to G5 schools.

For example, last year there were 8 4-star recruits commited to G5 schools. Here's the break-down:
UCF = 1
Boise St = 1
Temple = 2
San Diego St = 1
Memphis = 1
Tulsa = 1
San Jose St = 1

No other G5 schools had a 4-star recruit. Here is a list of P5 programs that had one or less 4-star recruits:
TCU, GaTech, Arizona, Utah, K-State, Boston College, Indiana, Wake Forest, Minnesota, Rutgers, Northwestern, Iowa, Syracuse, Duke, Kansas, Purdue, Iowa State, Colorado, and Oregon State.

There is a pecking order and it hasn't changed in the last 10 years, no matter what any G5 program does. Deal with the reality of this fact.

so what you're saying is that GOL has no idea how to recruit the 3* recruits.

Anyone catch the Rutgers coach taking the blame for his qb spiking it on fourth down at the end of the game?

Would GOL ever do that?

Why would a 17 year old kid have a strong desire to commit to GOL? He has a brash personality and will not be around much longer. The kids would essentially be making the decision to commit to a staff who won't even be coaching them for the majority of their time in college. Makes perfect sense for such kids to go elsewhere. Once GOL is gone and UCF gets a young, enthusiastic coach who can promise a fresh start, a positive outlook, and a return to greatness, things will turn around quickly.

Terrance Plummer is from Orange Park, Florida.

You're right. I was thinking about jonathan Davis. My bad. The kid was his division's defensive player of the year.

Still Plummer being a local guy makes all the myopic recruiting arguments tougher to make.

I was only pointing it out. You are spot on other wise. And 'yes' Jonathan Davis is from Georgia.

The only 4* guy on the Fiesta Bowl team was Godfrey so, more than recruiting, you gotta see how coaching has gone out the window since.

Bringing sports like men's track and field and men's cross country back to UCF would be great, in my opinion, but in many cases across the country, you'd have to get rid of Title IX to make that happen. I'm not optimistic about that happening any time soon.

Yes...I'm totally for bringing back track. Even some great O- lineman were shot putters

I agree with track. Thats what the Miami Hurricanes did for example right? Offer track scholarships to legit guys who also have football talent.
