Good grief. Yeah, The Most Important Issue Facing American Education Today is...(drumroll)..transgendered girls competing in sports. 🤪
You assume wrong. As with everything, there are going to be exceptions to the rule. But I seriously doubt most trangendered girls want to draw attention to themselves by competing in high school athletics.
IMHO, this is a stupid issue to bring up in Secretary of Education hearings. It's entirely designed to work up all the nation's transphobes.
It's not stupid. Anybody that thinks it is fair to women to have men compete in their sports is unfit to serve in a cabinet position. It's a batshit crazy idea that hurts far more people than it helps. This guy should be ridiculed for being a moron.

There's a Grand Canyon-wide difference between 'a boy dressing up as a girl for a scholie' and three Connecticut girls suing to ban trangendered athletes from competing. A transgendered girl would have to be really determined and emotionally tough (not easy for any 16-18 year old) to deal with all the hate and ridicule she would be subjecting herself to in order to compete.
As the Connecticut case clearly illustrates, the quickest way for a transgendered girl to be universally hated is to compete in high school sports. In their case, families actually went to court to BAN them from competing! It doesn't get more personal than that.
Hated is a pretty strong word.
Biological males do not belong in athletic competition with biological females. Period. They have an insurmountable physical advantage that is unfair to ask a biological female to try to compete with.
Saying that doesn’t mean anyone hates them. This is the same attitude a child has when they’re told no. You don’t get to just scream that people hate you and are being mean just because you don’t get to run track against someone whose physiology puts them at a disadvantage.

OK. She doesn't feel like anyone hates her. She hates herself but doesn't understand why, because all of her friends and her mom are supportive. She feels guilty but can't explain why. She feels like she's being watched all the time. She doesn't know if she should shave her armpits and legs because that's not what a man does. She wishes she had a lower voice but still wants to be able to sing like the chick from Evanescence. We need to go back to the good ole days when it was all just:
Beauty pageants: All natural and "other"
Baseball: Non-juiced and "other"
Tour De France: Non-juiced and "other"
Football: No steroids and "other"
Olympics: No PED and "other"
Maybe because the poor kid identifies as a man and people in his Mom's circle of friends stare at him funny and keep referring to him as "she." I understand reactions like that happen frequently to transgendered kids.

Okie dokie. I would think that your interactions with him/her would give you a sense of how confusing, difficult, anxious, guilty, and lonely a transgendered kid feels.
In the old days, these kids would learn early on that they needed to hide their true selves from the rest of the world. It will be interesting to follow this new generation of transgendered kids and see if 'coming out early' has made their lives easier or more difficult than their predecessors who were forced to hide behind a facade.

Sorry, chemmies comment just set me off a little bit so I'm pretty pissed right now. None of that changes the fact that biological men shouldn't be allowed to compete in women's sports. Maybe we should just do away with gendered sports altogether and then the best athletes will be rewarded on their physical merits.

So why the hell can't people like you and Rand Paul just STFU and treat the child like a damn human being, and possibly have some empathy for a child that is scared, confused, hurt, depressed, and has 1000 other emotions going on during their school years?

Do away with title 9 and just have sports, There will be almost no women getting schollies, and probably the same # of trans athletes as today. Would make the AD's job much easier when it comes to compliance.

Wouldn’t you say that gay and trans people have become more socially accepted over the last few decades? The polling certainly shows that to be the case.
So if the increased suicide rate within these groups is due to their social rejection, it should be coming down as their acceptance in society rises, no? It’s not, and that points to the main issue being something else.

Teen suicide has always been an issue. It's no surprise that the number has spiked over the last decade due to social media. This may come as a shock to some of you here in the WC, but online posters - particularly anonymous ones - have been known to be real dicks when it comes to how they treat other people. It's one thing if you are a well-adjusted adult, but imagine how much snide remarks hurt when you are a lonely, guilty, and very confused kid.

Social media is clearly detrimental to the mental health of a lot of people, gay, straight, whatever... To make it seem like trans or gay kids have a monopoly on being lonely, guilty, and very confused kids is to forget what being a kid was like for most of us.
Transgendered kids have entered a 'brave' new world. Is 'coming out' and being able to be yourself more healthy for a trans person? I would certainly think so. But on the other hand, I take your 'acceptance in society is clearly improving' statement with a gain of salt.
Yes, they're not automatically sent to the looney bin if they come out as would have been the case 50 years ago, but that doesn't mean that their lives are all peachy keen. As you pointed out, all teens in this social media age have pressures on them that the rest of us can't begin to fathom. No one is saying that trans kids 'have a monopoly' on challenging teenage years. But it shouldn't take an Einstein to suspect its even harder on them.
