Only 34,000 tickets sold for FIU

That is a good number if it isn't counting students.
Especially for a Thursday night game, although it is the season opener. Hopefully we'll have it packed, thanx to walk-ups and the students.

In any case, I finally gave up on complaining about ticket sales and attendance by last season. People have their excuses, valid or not, not my place. Besides, if you push someone on it, it only gets worse, and they start to argue with things you never stated ... or even implied.

I.e., as I learned both before, and definitely in the "Crass" thread ... the same people who made fun of me for suggesting people buy BCS tickets (via UCFAA), with the associated idea of a "framing party," turned around after and said, "I couldn't afford to go." Even after I'd clarify, "Never said you had to ... just said you should have bought a ticket via UCFAA and framed it before the game." Loop and repeat 2-3 times with select responders.

Everyone who supports the program, whether they can make it or not, I will always appreciate. Now I just smile when we get a packed, or almost packed, house.

The only thing I'd change is the alcohol cut-off time. It needs to end well before the game starts. But, alas, I've made that suggestion before, and I'm not alone.

34000 beats all but BYU and ECU, and probably beats Kansas for averages, so yes is pretty impressive for a who cares FIU.

The number INCLUDES students. UCF vs. FIU, being both Florida schools, should draw better than this even if they aren't rivals and FIU is not a national brand. It is the first game of the season.

FIU has no fans. They don't help with attendance.

If thats how many tickets have been sold, we're in good shape. 34k/46k = 73.9% full plus add in the fact that the student section can pack more than the 12k allotment ballparking it like 13.5k/14k so if the students show up (which they have these past seasons) we'll have a good crowd for a Thursday night. Walk up crowds and last minute decisions will likely bring those numbers even higher.

Keep in mind FIU is not a big name opponent, instate yes, but not a big draw for casual CFB fans. In the past we struggled to get 30k in regardless of the opponent on a Saturday so I like the way the numbers are pointing.

I'm a student so I don't really pay attention much but I always thought ucf could do a much better job marketing attending games to non students. It almost seems like people have to search and find rather the game. Orlando city needs to give them tips, they could have easily done a "pack the house" promo and I'm sure had a sell out honestly

Link?

If we indeed have 34k on a Thursday against a nobody then color me impressed! I still think weekday games are horrible for people with families. We will be there, but likely be leaving early.

I don't have a Link. GOL said that we sold 34k in his interview last night with Mark Daniels.

Really? Well then I suppose I'm cautiously optimistic. That number must include 12,000 students though or else the conversation would be that the game is sold out.

It's been a few years since I was a student but aren't those student tickets free? Kind of misleading to say 34k sold.

Yeah they are free. I would say misleading. If only 1k students show up then attendance would be 23k. Not fair to credit 12k students before we see how many actually show.

I wouldn't consider the student tickets "free." Not unless they've eliminated the mandatory fees that students pay based upon their credit hours.

That's fair, but it's a bit of a semantics game. They pay a fee for all athletic events. However, UCF doesn't get to automatically count all 12,501 students in attendance figures simply because they "paid" their athletic fees. If that was the case we'd have over 60,000 at every game! All that matters is how many students show up.

I would be pleasantly surprised if 30,000+ actually show up for this game. If it rains, look out.

Students on this Thursday night should be least of concerns although the game is really early I think every weekday game while I've been at school here the student section has actually been packed oddly enough

I work 5 miles from the stadium. I'm going to have to rush to get out of work, park and walk to the stadium. I'll probably miss kickoff. There is no way I'd make it by half time if I lived on the other side of town. These Thursday games are killing the program unless they plan to fill the stadium with students.
The key to good attendance is to make it the cool thing to do like OCSC. Tailgating and alcohol sales are a must.

I'm ok with Thursday but the 6pm start is horrible.

Yep, the 6:00 time is a big bummer. Anyone in West Orlando has no shot of getting there by a 6:00 kickoff if they leave at 5-530

During Lunch with George earlier it sounded like we have 34,000 sold already..not 34,000 expected. Not sure which one it is.

At least it starts at 6PM so hopefully by 9pm we will be up by 28 so you can leave early like me.

Looking at ticketmaster today, there can't be more than 5-7k tickets remaining. If the weather holds and we get a few thousand tickets sold tomorrow we could easily get announced attendance around 40k.

34k isnt so bad. For those that are complaining about the start time this should be the exception because our game along with UNC vs South Carolina will kick off the college football season. That in itself should be something to remember. While CBS Sports isnt ESPN, its much better than ESPN 3 which is carrying the other games starting at 7pm and later.

There will be 40,000+ tomorrow. I've been checking stub hub throughout the week. I know its not a reliable indicator of how many people will be there, but yesterday they were offering 300+ tickets with some as cheap as $9.00 for some seats. Now that number is down below 160 and the prices have skyrocketed in under a day. Nothing cheaper than $18 now and they're selling.

7- 7:30 would have made a huge difference for me and a lot of fans

I have 2 kids in middle school. Ages 11 and 12, one is in football and one is in soccer. Both have school and practice tomorrow. They will be missing last couple of hours of school and ALL of practice. They are 11 and 12! Thursdays work out great for families! I would think twice about a Saturday 12pm game with the kids games conflicting. But Thursdays...it is easy!

Whether it's a realistic goal or not, UCF should be aiming to get a sellout crowd for EVERY home game regardless of the opponent. We have the second largest enrollment in the nation. We shouldn't have to be concerned about filling the stadium. It just burns me.
