I make this post In honor of my grandfather and all WWI vets who 100 years ago today charged into the largest and deadliest offensive battle the US Army has ever been in - the Meuse Argonne. Sept 26 to Nov 11, 1918 - General Black Jack Pershing commanded 1.2 million US troops in this battle that essentially ended WWI on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month - now veterans day. During the 6 week offensive, US casualties totaled 95,000 wounded, 26,000 killed. GrandDad had mustard gas burns on both legs, terrible hearing from artillery rounds but very fortunate to make it back home. If you go to France, consider visiting The Meuse Argonne WWI memorials and pay your respects to the young men who gave all so that we could live in peace and enjoy our families and college Football.
