I’ve always been curious. Did people at the time know the village people were making these gay anthems or were they just the quirky guys who dressed up?
they were big at the time right? It wasn’t like revisionist that people listen to them now right?
I’m genuinely curious bc they have songs about being a hot cop and going to fire island but I know it was a different time.
Also - I’d love context about ‘in the navy’ - it’s such an earnest song and seems so random. I know there’s an obvious joke about a bunch of men on a ship but was there more to it? (My dad was a navy guy and iirc we have a submarine guy on here, trust me I’m not making a dig here)
Anyway would appreciate any observations here. I think they’re such an interesting band and I’ve always wondered how they were received at the time they came out (unsure if pun intended thus the post)
