The Reddit blackout has gotten me reminiscing back on the golden era of the internet before everything became about advertising. Back in the day there were so many communities just like this one for whatever you were into, just people showing up and having organic conversations. Websites and startups were scrappy, everyone was working on a shoestring budget and happy to have a few thousand visitors.
It’s neat to still have one place that I can come and it’s like the internet of yesteryear. You have people like Dali photoshopping stuff together without a sales goal or trying to be signed by F Jerry. This forum is just a bunch of people coming to shoot the shit without having the dream of monetizing their accounts.
This might be a boomer take but it’s sad to see what the internet has become. You go on Instagram and all the bigger accounts are just ads. You go on Twitter and all the big accounts are just ads. You go on Reddit and all the default subs are just ads. Where did it all go wrong?
