OT: Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders. That name is lame. Team names have to roll off the tongue, be short, and/or have some actual context with the team. That name has none of those attributes. Sounds like a AA baseball team name. It might be time for me to change teams if it was my team. The Washington Football Team had actually grown on me. It gave them an aire of "This team belongs to Washington DC.” I thought the Washington Monuments was a better cheeseball name. At least with Monuments, there are lots of monuments in DC, and you could make it about the history of the franchise. Have sayings/marketing like, "Whose the next Monument in DC?" (Aka Hall of a Famer/Superstar/First round draft pick,/etc…).

Also kind of liked Washington Football Team but I was guessing they'd choose something lame. Everything about the NFL is designed to appeal to the widest audience possible so it's steril and generic. Like pop music and network TV shows 🤮.

Might get used to the Commodes, but Monuments would have been horrible "Hands like concrete/marble etc." QB is as mobile as a monument..... They truly are like Monuments---80% of America have no idea who they are. Kind of like 'Valor'. Right now the new name sounds silly, kind of like the Apollos or Manatee (the supposed Orlando CFL expansion team that never happened edit: that was Miami)

I'll still refer to them as the Redskins, just like I still call the arena in Tampa The Ice Palace, still call the new arena in Orlando the O-Rena, and the Dolphin's stadium Joe Robbie. The Washington Commanders in NO way represent the citizens of DC. In fact, these congressmen and women likely do not even live in the city. You elected these people. Get rid of them. I can think of two senators from your state right off the bat.

My funniest realization is that every other nfl team with a long name has a shortened nickname (ie. Buccaneers to Bucs or Patriotsto Pats). The obvious shorter nickname for commanders is commies which is, I imagine, NOT the nickname they want to use. Everyone knows though, you never get to pick your own nickname. Lol

If we assume that you are correct, that means that 50% of the native american population finds the term "redskin" offensive. 1. First field is two digit code representing the professional sport (0-99). Example: NCAAF = 07
2. Second field is two digits and represents the state number the team resides in (0-99). FL = 13
3. Third field can be is the hexadecimal equivalent of the cities location: Orlando = 26B3F3E (I just made this up based on the site below)

I grew up in the DC area and was an avid fan. NFL is crazy in that area. We learned the Washington fight song in elementary school and you could always find a parking spot when the game was on. The reality is the team name doesn't matter because we are use to let downs. Wins matter and as long as Danny is in power we will not be winners. Thank goodness I can count on UCF when the Washington team is done after game 5. I'm going to cry clutching my John Riggins, Doug Williams, and Rypien jerseys now. All are old and tattered.

Have you ever spoken with someone who is native american and finds it deeply offensive? Not likely. If you did, you may change your mind. Do some digging on it and read up on the use of the term.
