Yes, this is a massive hypothetical - but I understand that if Memphis were to win out, then they would have a very strong case for a playoff berth. If they do make it, or win it all, the conference benefits from money/exposure. Right?

At the same time, I imagine such a scenario improves the chances of Memphis grabbing a future Big12 invite. If they were to leave for the P5, the AAC would be even weaker.

Does this mean the AAC is inevitability doomed?
Is it in UCF's best interest for our conferencemates to lose?
Is there any hope that the existing teams can win games and grow the value internally?
Is a P6 even possible?

All great questions. The UCF haters last week laughed at this as our conference continues to put teams in the top 25 and beat teams from P5 or take them down to the wire. Good teams.

It's never a bad thing to collect the paycheck from a premium bowl game or have your conference be strong. UCF has to worry about UCF right now.
We are the weak link and that has to end ASAP.

Odds are 60-40 we are going nowhere in the next 4 to 5 years. Odds are 50-50 no one in AAC is moving in next 4 to 5 years. Bottom line is we need the conf strong for the TV deal. And our turn around needs to be pretty quick. Need to be middle of pack next year. Not great, just not laughing stock.

P6 is laughable. Yes UCF must root for their conference mates to lose in seasons where they are worthless like this one.

Bizarre thinking that 2 good years for Memphis (whose team is going to graduate this year, and will lose their HC) and 1 bad year for UCF and all of a sudden they get more consideration than us. Apparently all the off field advantages we have evaporated because Memphis had 2 good years.

Just my guess, but the only way you get a P6 would be if they grow the playoffs to more than 8 (because they'll always find a reason to keep a G5 team out with 8 teams), and an AAC team sneaks in year after year and finally wins the championship. Until that time, you'll have conferences picking AAC teams which they'll consider as P5 games but will ignore the conference as a whole.

No way an AAC sees the playoffs in the current climate. The powers that be will not let it happen. Only brand names allowed.

Memphis going down. Cinderella story is over. Nice season so far but can't lose at home to Navy. Triple option can be a beep itchbeep itch
