Purdue hires Odom

It seems like we were waiting for the conference games, so I do think we were waiting for Odom to become available but got out bid by purdue. The timing of it makes sense, or maybe TMo wanted to be in the media cycle the morning before the big CFP selection show today at Noon. Some talking points for the talking heads now during that 4 hour planned show possibly or not, but we do have an article up on Scott Frost right now on ESPN dot com. The word is getting out.

Regardless, I'm stoked on Scott Frost. I really don't have anything negative to say. It's been an interesting year and to come full circle like this makes it even more so.

I do not think we were outbid. That Mountain West Title game and having 0 points deep into the 3rd quarter vs Chinander probably gave Terry cold feet

There is absolutely no way you could even try and sell a defensive coach to this fanbase right now. It’s not what people want.
That will always be the case....but just like Kruz and GOL sometimes it is what a team NEEDS. But Odom's team sealed his fate with us. Think that was the reason all of this broke after their game

I don't think we were out bid. The reason Purdue was widely thought of as being the worst of the 4 P4 jobs (by a wide margin) is because they never want to put money into the program.

One guy was a sitting head coach in a conference championship game. The other guy "has been" unemployed at the collegiate level since Sept. 11, 2022.

Let me reiterate Frost is a "has been".

I think Purdue was Odom’s second choice as well, with us being the first choice. Ultimately I don’t think it had anything to do with bidding, more to do with the supporters and donor voices being so strong towards Frost that Terry had no choice but to go with Frost. And I don’t blame him, If those were the only 2 options for us, Odom was not a good fit here

This guy will fail with Purdue. They need an offensive mind running that team. It is a difficult job that has only been succeeded by offensive minds such as Tiller and Brohm

Guess we'll see. The last time there was something close to this was Frost v. Barbers to replace a HC that lost any ability to coach. Glad we didn't get Barbers, and I'll bet we'll be happy we didn't get this guy too.

Who is Barbers? The guy that cuts hair on the corner outside the stadium?

We don't need no stinkin' Babers!
That guy's name has come up on a list of UCF HC candidates before, a few years back. Why don't we just create some kind of assistant or analyst or equipment manager position or something so we can finally put to rest the Babers rumors?

Mohajir interviewed a bunch of candidates. He said anyone that said money was the most important thing was crossed off right away. Not only for short term, but long term they will always be trying to upgrade paychecks. I’m betting the hot names said money.

It’s already been said Sumrall is trying to bilk huge money from UNC. Guaranteed he probably said something like that to us.

All hard feelings people may have aside, Scott Frost loves UCF & Orlando and has won here before. I think for him, succeeding here is going to be more meaningful than for any other coach. I also think he never leaves on his own accord. He messed up once. He won't do it again. Coaches are always a risk. I'm ok with the guy that wants to be here for the right reasons and has won here before.

looks like UNC had enough and walked away from negotiations with him. He announced last night he was staying at Tulane.

All may have just dodged a bullet. No matter who hired him this cycle, he would be gone the minute a good SEC job came calling for him. He’s a Kentucky alum. Stoops is wearing out his welcome there. And if Brian Kelly keeps losing and barking at players on the sidelines at LSU, that job could open in a year or so too.

That is what he said anyway.....I think he talked to very few people, because nothing was leaking out like would normally happen.

No wonder TMO balked/barfed on Odom:

"Purdue also gave Odom 39 million reasons (the base salary for his six-year contract) to accept the job."

6.5 million a year coach? Wowsa...Too much...

Must be nice for Purdue. They don't win much in football, but yet they can afford to pay that crazy kind of money to their head coach.

That'll put Odom at 31st with Matt Rhule. Malzan's 5 million this coming year would have placed him at 42 nd along with Mack Brown. I'm guessing Frost will get around 5 million a year. If so, I like the difference going toward getting and retaining quality coaches.

Not many on that list earning those high salaries. Most schools are paying big bucks for "hot" or "big" names, only to get mediocre to bad results. Goes to show that it's a 50/50 (or less) chance that schools hit on new hires.
