Ruth Bader Ginsburg has died

I doubt it will be before the election, because it would put some Republican senators in tight races in a tough spot, but I could certainly see it after the election.

It’s going to happen. They will push this forward.

I dont think it is as cut and dry as we think though. If Biden wins and/or Dems take the senate, it will be absolute chaos if they appoint a new justice. There are a handful of Senate Republicans who have previously stated they are against doing so, but we will see if they live up to their word. McConnell will most certainly want it, but whether he gets what he wants will have to wait and see. And honestly, if Trump loses, he might just not care.

That’s what we’ll hear this weekend. Trump will say a month is PLENTY of time to do this and Mitch will play the good little toadie.

Murkowski said she is not going to vote to confirm until after the election, if say Romney and a couple of others say that as well, then it wont be an issue. Now, she did say after the election, and I hope she means after the inauguration.

Aaaaand I was right. As always. World's largest piece of human trash declares, before RBG's body is even room temperature, than Trump's nominee will get a vote. What an absolute garbage human being.

Breaking: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who refused to consider President Obama’s choice months before the 2016 election, said in a statement Friday hours after Ginsburg’s death: “President Trump’s nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate.”

Who didnt expect this?

He is a complete piece of shit. At this point Democrats have to take the Senate and Biden needs to win. Even if they appoint someone, Democrats can expand the court if they are in power. All is not lost, yet anyway.

I also dont think it's going to be that easy for them now though, I do think there are going to be some Republicans that dont want to confirm anyone until next year, it will just be a matter if they hold to their convictions or if McConnell can convince them.

They can vote after the election but before seats change hands. Thats probably the most likely scenario unless Trump nominates a moderate. I would laugh my butt off if he nominated Garland just to mess with people.

If that happens though, I would absolutely expect Democrats to expand the court.

This definitely could make any court challenges to the election results interesting.

$100 says spineless hypocrite Mitch McConnell allows trump to appoint a justice before the election.

Yeah, because Joe Biden says it's okay, you ignorant pedophile

I also kind of think, that this might not be a great thing for Trump and Republicans. Anyone on the fence about voting, is probably going to be voting now. If they were honest, I think both Trump and Mitch would have preferred this happened after the election.

I was hoping that she would make it until next year but this will be the end of America.

I dont think the timing really matters that much. She wasnt going to make it through a 2nd Trump term anyway, so the election is still what matters.

March 16th is when Obama nominated Garland. Let's see if they try to put an ass in RBG's seat in 4-6 weeks now.

Mith will try, I dont know if he is going to have the #s. Murkowski has said she is not for it, and apparently Romney isnt going to vote to confirm until after inauguration day. We will see if anyone else comes out and says they wont vote until after inauguration day.

The problem is that Trump always turns the temperature up. This will create a bigger divide.
If they fill it the Senate is going dem. He's possibly better off making it an election issue and using it to scare his base into voting. If they don't fill it they can make the election about all the dumb shit they want like abortion or being able to discriminate against gays. That's a much better platform for them than coronavirus where they are getting smoked.

That was my first thought about what comes next.

Whether he and Mitch can accomplish it before the election or not, he'll play to his base -- and troll the Dems -- by making it crystal clear that he plans to do it.

Trump will spend the weekend talking about "his SCOTUS List" and "picking SCOTUS judges is one of his most important roles as President" and "this country needs a new SCOTUS NOW!!!" So it's "full steam ahead!!!"

The only question will be whether or not Trump announces his nominee for the court before or after Ginsberg's funeral.

Both sides are going to do this, not just trump. This is going to be the most divisive and controversial election ever.

And people laugh when I say we are looking at a 2nd Civil War.

Both sides???!?

If Mitch and his Senate Republicans respect the same election-year rhetoric they used against Obama in MARCH of an election year, then the temperature from Democrats will lower.

But if the divisiveness gets ratcheted up it's only because the WH tries to ramrod a Trump nominee through the SCOTUS approval process before the election. If that happens beginning this week then YES, the increased divisiveness will most definitely all be on Trump.

Put yourself in his shoes. What would you do? Can't really nominate a conservative justice this close to the election because of the backlash, but cant just sit on it either. I'll bet every white house staffer isn't going to bed tonight.

They sat on Scalia's seat for a year.

The only voice the majority has is protest at this point because the senators that confirm this justice will represent 35% of the population and the president who appoints him will have received 46% of the vote.

This wouldn't even be a story if they hadn't stolen the seat they stole by sitting on that nomination from March 16th 2016 to election day. If we are going to accept minority rule we shouldn't have to accept dirty politics with it.
